I live in Spain and have a 2002 KJ 2.5CRD Sport 4x4. Last week my dealer made the LBJ recall and the 60000 Km inspection and oil changes.
They told me I have to change ASAP the axle between the transmission and the front axle ( driveshaft ?), because the protector where these axle conects with the transmission has disappeared and the grease is also away and it may cause a major problem on my transmission. The dealer says that this protection does not exist as a spare part, it comes with the axle and that is why I have to change all together. The cost of the spare is 504Euro (aprox. 600$).
Somebody else had to made this repair ?
Someone knows if it is true that this protection does not exist as a spare part.

Hi Alcarria,
I live in Scotland and had the driveshaft replaced under warranty (3 years warranty) because it was damaged too.

Your Jeep wiil be out of warranty so tell your dealer that this is premature wear and that this should not be happening at 60.000KM and tell them you would like them (Jeep Spain) pay for a part of the cost.

50% is what most manufactures will offer.

Good luck!

Do they offer the 7/70 over there??? I would think it would fall under that part of the warranty?? But nevertheless I would ask for them (Jeep Spain) to help cover 1/2 the cost...Good Luck

I will try to get some cooperation from Jeep in the cost, but I don't expect much from them.
About junkyards, we have, but the KJ is not very popular in Spain, so it won't be easy to find some driveshaft, the Grand Cherokee's are here the most selled Jeep model.
Thanks for the replies.

check www.car-part.com

perhaps the shipping is not too much to find one here and ship it over....after you see if the dealer will kick in though

If they are talking about the dust boot then it shouldnt need to be replaced ASAP. Its not even connected to the tranny, so it will be fine. The driveshaft will go bad and stat making some noises. You could just take it off until you found a replacement.. :)

i have just had my front driveshaft replaced for exactly the same reason , i was getting some nice chruchy noises on acceleration and slowing to a stop, they found out it was the dust boot had perished and the CV joint had been damaged ( if you can remove the drive shaft 12 bolts in total and get it rebuilt )

it cost A$ 970 here and my Dealer got me a special price for the part ( lets say it was going to be over 1500 A$

i kept the old driveshaft and i am getting it rebuilt as a spare

Finally yesterday I got my front driveshaft replaced, when I got back my KJ, my VISA was 655€ lighter (aprox.770$). Of course no reply from Jeep to my email, but that is not new.
