I have an early build '03 renegade. Is there an easy way to tell if I have the 45RFE or the 42RLE?

Thanks!

Get under your jeep and look at it..

If its an early build then you may have it.

There are 2 transmissions, the 42RLE and the 45RFE. On the 42RLE the identification label is affixed to the upper left side of the bell housing, it is partially visible from the engine compartment, the 45RFE label is affixed to the left side of the case above the oil pan. I had the 42RLE, to service the 45RFE you need a special wrench for the additional coolant return filter. Joe :D
From a previous post on the subject. There is a definate difference in the look of the pan but I can't find the pics I had of them. When/if I do I will post them.

One thing you might want to do is go to jeeps website and contact them and ask for a vehicle build sheet. Really interesting to see what exactly got put on your jeep.

And if that doesn't help you can call your local dealership and give them your VIN and ask them to check the options on the vehicle.

If this link works, ID from the pan/gasket shape.

Haha..

I think they changed the cross member also. If your cross member is straight then you probably dont have the 45rfe. If its angled to the back then you should have it. 8)

I finally got a chance to check this out. Based on the link dkcase posted it looks like the 42rfe pan has 15 bolts holding it on and the 42rle has 13 bolts holding it on. Mine is a 42rle.

Thanks again!
