Anyone know of any good speakers, preferably under $100 per pair. I blew out my front right driving home from work today. I would love the Polk Audio db650s, but they are a little pricey. Anyone know of any good ones? I've heard good things about Kenwood. (Darn, skid plates put on hold again :? )

Anyone had any experience with the Polk Audio db650s? Crutchfield has them on a pretty good price.

Anything from C'field will sound a million times better than the stockers. My question is can you just replace the speaker? I thought the amp was kind of attached/built on to the stock speakers??????

Do you have the Infinity System? If so then swapping the Front speakers isn't easy . . . the Infinity speakers have Amps attached to the Speakers that not only power the front, but also the back....

Each front speaker has a harness which (if memory serves me) has 6 wires in it:

Power & Ground for Amp
+ & - Input for Front Sound
+ & - Input for Rear Sound
+ & - Amped Output for Rear Sound

So . . . in really short format you need either and Amp, or to swap the deck . . . and then you have to short circuit / Connect the Rear Input +'s and Rear Output +, as well as the Rear Input - to the Rear Output - so the sound will simply pass right by the harness to the Rear speaker.

IF You have the Infinity system . . . now I dunno about the base system, or newer model Liberties . . .

There are other Threads that explain this in a bit more detail too!

Use Crutchfield to verify your Fit . . . but you can also order good name brand speakers from the following places (I've used many times) . . . and most come with all the adapter brackets that you need, though I guess there's no guarantee:

http://www.millionbuy.com
http://www.cardomain.com
http://www.hookedontronics.com

Search, because there's some other threads on where to get good equipment . . .

I honestly don't know if I have premium sound or not. I've been lead to believe both ways. How can I find out? Also, I have the steering wheel mounted controls and the 6 disc in the back, can that be wired up to an aftermarket HU?

And what should I be looking for in an amp? I may need to get that installed for me. Speakers I can do, an amp I don't know.

If you have the steering wheel controls then you have the Infinity sound system with the amps on the front speakers.

Hey desertkj,

If I remember correctly from when I used to install, I think they make high to low level adapters which basically takes your high level outputs (speaker wires) and converts them to low level (rca signal cables to your amp), so you should be able to do it. If I were you, I would put together a reasonable, economical, system with a head unit, component set up front, coax's in the rear, and maybe a 10" woofer in the back. You could pick up an amp that is 5 channels of amplification which will power everything.

Hope this helps ya some, and if ya need any further help, feel free to ask!

Fuucker all that!

That don't mean anyhting! MY experience with Chrysler is that it will have the infinity stamp on the head unit, then it is the upgraded Infinity version. Basically pop off your door panels (2 second job) and check the speakers. If you only have to pull ONE SINGLE plug off the speaker then you dont have to worry bout the whole amp situation that everyone is talkin bout. You can still keep your stock HU and run an after market amp.

If you are looking at having an AMP put in then you may find it more economical and easier to just swap your Deck for an aftermarket one . . . that has extra features and plays MP3's... they can be had for under $150 easily these days.

And, if you want to retain your Stock steering wheel controls then there are 2 ways to do that also... either with an IR adapter . . . OR with a Pioneer (and Sony I think) deck you that supports a hard wired remote you can have it hardwired to the deck. PAC makes an adapter for both. It's not that hard to install once you know the Tricks... took me quite some time to work out but I'd be glad to post some pics/info. if you go that route.

Finally, with an aftermarket deck you can easily power all the speakers (assuming you're swapping them also) off the Head Units AMP . . . it'll sound better than Stock as is. No real need for an external amp unless you are wanting to add a Sub.

Refer to my previous post for re-wiring the Infinity Harness and allowing the signal from the Head Unit to pass through and power the rear speakers... I've been using my Deck's AMP for years and it sounds GREAT. My external AMP is only used to power my 12" Sub.... and no the Deck's AMP isn't drowned out by any means . . .

NOPE . . . the Infinity system didn't have any sort of stamp at all on my 2002 Liberty. But, then I didn't know the speakers had AMPS on them until I removed my Doors (which is NOT a 2 second process for those of you that are in touch with reality).

I think I read somewhere that if you have the Steering Wheel controls then you have the Infinity System also . . . I'm not entirely sure, but I'm inclined to agree with the original statement.

The front speaker amps also have a crossover to power the front tweeters.

That's a good point it did have to power the Tweeter . . . but I'm thinking that it was just a capacitor (ie. Bass Blocker type of filter) that branced off of the front signal . . . nothing special in the Amp I don't think.... but it was back in December when I had that all apart . . .

If anyone wants to pull their door and verify I'm sure it'd be useful to folks . . .
