Well, geez! This is going to be a realllllllly long thread.

The Recommended Dealers thread would be a much shorter thread.

I didn't buy from the dealer closest to me, Fairbanks Sawgrass CJD, because they treated me, a buying customer with money like crap. Couldn't imagine how they treat people in the service department. I've heard from others who have experienced the Five-Star quality at Fairbanks and they've confirmed that sales and service are worse than can be imagined.

The place I finally bought from and where I go for service is merely borderline on their good days -- (Massey Yardley) -- The service dept front office folks always miss that I'm handing over a diesel -- even when I tell them. The techs who do the work have caught the front office mistakes each time, so they appear to be paying attention, but I haven't had to turn the vehicle in for anything major, yet. I've heard from others they do good work on the gassers.

Greenbrier Jeep.

Unless it comes in on a flatbed with the Check Engine Light flashing, their standard response to every problem is Could Not Duplicate.

Does anybody use Green-Gifford Jeep? They are also a Dodge dealer, hopefully they have a mechanic that speaks Diesel.

I have a great dealer, too bad they are 4300 miles from the east coast.

Blake,
I use Hall Jeep in Va Beach. The diesel mech's name is David and he has done right by me.

Mack Massey El Paso, Texas unless its on a flat bed... I think this stand for most dealers on trying to fix design problems. tranny shutter, and tranny dipstick never repaired.

Recommended: I gave up on a tranny fix, but recalls were taken care of free of grease on the steering wheel at Earnheart's Jeep on Baseline.

They're in it for the munny, so giving good warranty service is a waste of time.

I don't know what their service department is like, but I bought mine from World Jeep in Tinton Falls, NJ (that's the only place I could find a CRD with the tow group in anything other than dark blue).

They screwed up my warranty (started it when I gave my deposit via phone -- 2.5 weeks before I took delivery of the vehicle) and won't help to fix it. Marty Garland actually said "well, your consolation is that you got a GREAT PRICE on your new Jeep!" Are you kidding me?

YUP. Which is why I would never recommend someone to give them their business. The dealership I bought my VW from was nice and helpful to me every time I went in there after that, so I know not all dealerships are like that. Grr...

I have used Halls, VA Beach, for my service and it's been a bit of a battle. I had to escalate past my worthless service advisor to get anything done (unless it was DOA on a flatbed) and to get a rental when they were replacing my EGR parts (three trips). And then he tried to charge me for the second day of the rental because he thought the job should be done in a day, but it took two.

I am seriously conisdering trying Green-Gifford on my next trip. I'll post up my findings if I do go there.

If you DO go to Halls...DO NOT GET STUCK WITH THE SERVICE "advisor" NAMED BERNIE!!! He is a self-serving waste of flesh that treats me like I'm trying to steal from him personally whenever I take the truck in for ANYTHING.

The guys at the Enterprise rental counter are really nice though.

And Mike, I tried to go to the service advisor you said you go through, but all he did was fill out my form and hand it to Bernie.

I don't mean to steer anyone away from Halls with my comments about Bernie. And there may be other worthless service advisors there too. Mike said he likes...what was his name?....I can't remember his first name, but his last name was Hall. He's been taken care of the whole time by his service advisor and by David the tech.

I have no complaints about the service that is FINALLY done to the Jeep. It's just getting over the hurdle of the advisor that I complain about. After Bernie finally wrote up the ticket, the tech fixed it quick and well. It's just getting idiot-boy to write it up that

The manager of the service advisors is a good guy. A real Jeep guy that drives a modified Wrangler and gave me a rental during my last two EGR-related trips. When I picked up my truck after they replaced my cracked windshield (I hate the ground-up interstates around here) I had a chance to talk with him outside. We were standing there talking about the Liberty and the CRD motor and the upcoming (at that time) 4-door Wrangler, and then I asked him about the whole rental car thing. His first corporate response was the same bile that oozes out of Bernie's mouth..."You get four free rentals when you buy from Halls." I cut him off and said, "I know that the standard is four free rentals. And in a normal car ownership that would be plenty. But I've been in here for 5 CELs in fifteen thousand miles. I just bought a 31 thousand dollar truck (didn't actually pay that much, but I used it for effect) and less than six months later I'm supposed to RENT a car? I don't mind being the beta tester for Daimler Chrysler, and I love driving this truck and this engine and proving it sells in this country, but I want the company that built it to stand behind me being their beta tester." He kinda looked away for a sec and then said, "Don't worry, I'll take care of you."

Last time I went in, I handed it over to Bernie and told him "Your boss said my rental is on Halls." Get this, Bernie actually got up from his little perch, walked around me, over to his boss, and said, in front of me and everyone else, "You're actually going to PAY for this rental?!"

Do NOT get stuck with Bernie! I'm serious, if they tell you you're being assigned to the Grey team, tell them to cancel the appointment. As a matter of fact, ask them who the advisor is when they tell you what team you're assigned to. I think they might have changed him from "Grey" to "White."

I can't recall the advisor's supervisor's name, but he stands at an advisor's desk all the way to port, next to the Enterprise counter. Mike's advisor is on the starboard side of the door in the middle of the advisor's desks. Bernie is the first desk on the port side of the middle door.

My next service is just an oil change (free with the coupon that I can use ANYWHERE), so I think I might scope out Green-Gifford for that. It's not any more out of my way than Halls and I like the fact that they might have more diesel techs around since they work on Dodge's too.

Dealt with Hall service in 1987. Seems it hasn't gotten any better. I would push my Jeep past Hall before darkening their door. Until the dealers start getting paid a fair rate for warranty work, this isn't going to change. I think alldata.com lists the time alloted for each job. Normal can pay 2.5 hours Warranty work pays half that. No wonder the dealer doesn't want to touch warranty work.

The advisor that I use at Hall is Mike Hall, great guy and David the tech has done me no wrong. I guess I just have gotten lucky.

In New Jersey avoid Stadium Jeep in Rutherford, NJ...

Took my CRD in there because the tire sensor just stopped working, well after fighting with the service advisor it was not my spare tire low on air he finally came out and took a look. As I was waiting in the customer area he came running in to me and said "Your Jeep is making a bunch of terrible noises", I started to panic because I am leaving for Washington State the next morning. Well after going out to the car and starting it I had to tell them it was a Diesel! He finally agreed the tire sensor was bad but didnt have the part but he said the dealer up the road did.

Ramsey Chrysler and Jeep in Ramsey, NJ...

AVOID these people even more. I had to fight to get the sensor replaced. They tried to blame me for a "broke" sensor. I told them I never touched it but they were not going to even hear my side of the story. I had to get the service manager and explain in detail my situation (Leaving for WA state) yada yada yada and finally someone looked and said its "defective" I guess you need to say the correct buzz words to get stuff fixed under warranty there.

AVOID:
Stadium Automall Jeep - Rutherford, NJ (Never even seen a CRD before and not worked on one either)
Chrysler and Jeep in Ramsey, NJ (These people are just plain rude and to much drama there)
