Okay so I found this site http://alucinari.net/jeep/kj/evic_install/ and I deceided to find and install an evic, the site says you can use any evic from a grand cheroke '99 and up, I found one from a 02 cheroke for $115, now i was looking at some other sites and I have seen someone say you need an evic from an 05 and up for the temp to work on an 05 and up liberty, i have an 05 renegade, does this mean i won't get the temp or has anyone done it and have the temp work?

My first evic was from an '02 gc, and it temp and instant MPG did not work. Don't think its anything that you can do to make work, it has something to do with the sensor data being routed differently, thru the BCM instead of the ECM (or the other way around). Wiring is all the same tho, so once i found another evic from an '04, it was an easy replacement.

If you haven't already, you may also want to check under your headliner for the retainer bracket, the black piece of plastic that holds the evic to the roof. I'd link you to the how to over at JeepKJ's forums, but the pictures of it are gone. Anyway, its part #5072348AA, around 25 dollars from the dealership. I got a black retainer with the evic that came out of a GC, but it didn't fit in the KJ.

okay, thanks for your response, i think the seller will refund my money so i can find an 04, the temp and mileage was one of the main reasons i wanted it. I'll just have to keep looking

Okay, so i have the correct EVIC on the way, i was looking over the install instructions again and I am unsure of where the EVIC plugs into, is the plug under the dash on the driver side or passanger side? One of the sites said it was on the right but i didn't see it. Anybody have a pic? I assume the plugs from 04 will be the same as 05

Also i was wondering i saw i can probably purchase a wire harness from dodge from an intrepid for $40, I only have the pigtail on the EVIC. Would it be worth the harness for a cleaner install, (i like installs to look as professional as possible) or is the plug good for other things and I should just splice into it because i may need it for the towing lights or something, because i see a lot of the harness say with or without center console.

I just installed my EVIC in my 03 KJ Freedom edition a couple weeks ago.

Dont bother spending $40 on a wiring harness, just add wiring to the pigtail thats already there. You'll never see the wiring anyways.

chrisroth1, this page has some general info that might be helpful: http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Jeep_Liberty/Electrical/Overhead_Consoles EVICs from 05-up Grand Cherokees won't work with the Liberty because the GC switched to the CAN bus for these years while the Liberty still uses the PCI bus.

I just got the EVIC today, its out of a 04 liberty, it was not supposed to have the tire pressure monitor on it because i didn't really want to mess with it. I just wired it up to see if it works and it does have the tire pressure monitor, everything works on it except the rear passanger side wheel does not read. It shows the other three fine. What could be up with it? Do you think I should change the spare with it to see if it reads?

Other than that it works fine, I am just waiting on the retainer to hold it up, its had to be special ordered through the dealer. I also had to make my own harness for the whole thing, the seller said it had the pigtail for it but it didn't, luckly I found out from another member that a floppy disk power connector fit in.

Thanks

I just tried changing the spare with the tire that was not reading and no luck, still not reading.

The EVIC shows says right rear tire low PSI and than shows the tire blinking with 0 psi, anyone know why just one tire would do this?

Did you try driving for a while? The sensors transmit less than twice a day when stationary. Once the Libby reachs a certain speed they transmit almost constantly.

yeah, i tried driving, i drove about 6 miles at a constant 50 mph, it didn't change anything. I was wondering do they need to be retrained? I noticed the evic gives the option of retraining them, but my manual for my car dosen't say anything about that. is training sensors from an 05 the same as training sensors for the 04? however the sensors should be fine otherwise i would have a light on my dash shouldn't i?

Starting in 2005, retraining the sensors with the little donut magnet is no longer required. Instead, there are transponders in three of the four wheel wells that tell the SKREEM module (sentry key module that includes the TPMS receiver) which tire is in which location. It could be that 04 and earlier EVICs don't support the new auto training TPMS.

thats what i thought, i guess i may be stuck with just having one tire not reading until i find an evic from an 05, i just think its strange only one tire doesn't read

Edit- I think unixxx answered it. I had to get '04 sensors to work with my '04 evic.

what is involved to get the 04 sensors installed, like what parts are needed and the costs and can i do it myself. i don't know if it will be worth the extra money to do it, boi1ermaker what year was your jeep, did it have the same problem?

The problem with upgrading the sensors is that they interface with the EVIC through the SKREEM module and 04 sensors may not work with an 05 SKREEM module. On the other hand, 04 and 05 sensors could be exactly the same, with the only difference between the two years being the brains in the SKREEM module. The easiest way to tell if the sensors are the same between the two years is to go to the dealership and ask them for the part number for each year and see if they match. The price of all new sensors would probably be a lot more than an 05 EVIC and they'd have to be installed by a tire shop the next time your get your tires pulled off.

I have an '05...it was a sport, bone stock no factory evic, no tire pressure sensors installed, so i don't know if i have a SKREEM module in any of the wheel wells. This is what i do know...I found 5 tire pressure sensors off ebay part # 52088990-AC and had them installed when i swapped rubicon rims for the stock steel rims. So at least for me, i was able to use all '04 stuff in my '05. A pressure sensor would run about 55 from the dealership; once in a while some will pop up on ebay for far less. Another difference is that the '04s have metal caps, the self-training '05+ have plastic caps. btw, part 56053030-AB are '05 pressure sensors; example here on ebay.

There are two types of evic modules for '05, a base and a premium. The base module is part # 56010527-AD and goes for about 360 at the dealership. The premium module is part # 56010520-AD, around 550 from the dealership. I think the main difference is the premium displays pressure sensor values, while the base will just display warning messages.
