I would like to add a winch to my '06 CRD and wondered what I need to purchase such as a new bumper, etc. Or better yet, do I NEED a new bumper and what winch do you recommend......

that depends if your married i am sure your wife would not like you getting a new wench

a winch on the other hand warn makes good winches,

a winch bar would be a good start ARB makes a HEAVY bar ( you will need HD ARB Springs to cope with the sagging ) and TJM have made a NEW winch bar for the 05 / 06 KJ's which is half the weight of the ARB

Several folks have gone to front reciever hitches and mount a winch on a removable cradle - it allows the winch to be moved front to back as needed - or left in the garage if it's not needed.
the only bumper I currently know of for a winch mount is the ARB and it's heavy - since you have a CRD - you're looking at extraspacers, or custom springs to keep the jeep level after bumper and winch.

and buells1 - a long time ago I had a Norton Altas - it was a great bike - so when're you going to uncrate the Commando?

Hey Fouros I've also seen advertisements about a Tmax - supposed to be an Australian design - you ever heard of them?

You have the stiffest springs made for our trucks already. The ARB will collapse your front-end, so don't get it. A front receiver hitch and a hitch-mount winch are your only "off the shelf" solutions. There are a couple front bumpers that are supposed to be lighter than the ARB coming out. Those might be candidates for you. Or you can go with something custom.

The Warn M8000 is a good choice for the Liberty and it's recommended by ARB for use in their bull bar. In fact, I think according to the winch rule of thumb of weight and a half, the M6000 would also work. You can actually get them for almost half off at winchdepot.com. Does anyone know if the front receiver is still in production? I thought All J bought the last batch or something....

but that is what tjm shows to be a bull bar for their 02-04 KJs.....The front bumper is not listed on their website yet from what i could tell. You'd have to contact their local branch in Knoxville to figure a price out on that bumper that OzLtd is showing off...But I'd think it would be in the $500-$700 range easily...

I had to submit that post before I was done typing Endurance, sorry about that. I meant to say "Check this bumper out." on the pict and then write something brilliant and witty for the link I posted. But work interrupted my (cough cough) work day and I had to post early.

Sorry about the confusion.

Anyway, check the link, it shows the suppliers in Alabama for you. It looks like you have a place in Homewood, Rainbow City, Mobile, Huntsville, and Killen, Alabama.

maybe look at this ?

A TJM 10,000Lb Hydraulic Winch  Bit of overkill but hell it works !

TJM are working on an 8,000Lb Hydraulic Winch I believe ? 8K is the highest recommended for the KJ.

That's pretty sweet. Both the bumper and the winch. So does a company make a hydraulic pump for the 3.7L then?

The hydraulic power needed to power the winch is from the KJ stock power steering pump. The kit comes with a couple of hydraulic hoses (that funnily enough 'we' (Hydraulink) supply to TJM!) and tap straight into it. You only need 1000-1500psi to run the hydraulic winch. Hydraulic power is alot stonger than electrical power.

Oz.....don't you mean 8K would be the minimum, not maximum for a KJ, with regards to a winch?

That's a cool idea. Is the power steering essentially disabled when you use the winch?

On my brother's jeep the steering isn't disabled, but you have to ramp up the rpms to around 1100 rpms if I remember right to get the winch to start working at capacity.
