Hey guys,

Well, the Rusty's lift is on, along with the 245/75 General Grabber AT2's. The KJ looks totally mean, but I need some advice. The Grabbers have pretty much killed my gas mileage on my 44.5 mile one-way commute to work. I've listed the tires in the for sale section as they will have only 150miles on them at the time I will take them off on Saturday. The tire shop said that they cannot take them back because they were special orders, but will give me a special deal on a different set when I go there on Saturday.

The question I have is, do I keep the Grabbers and deal with the gas mileage issue, or do I spring for a different set of tires and sell the Grabbers? The Grabbers seem like an awesome tire and feel really well planted on the road.

Help, cuz this is buggin me!!

I'll make sure to take pics and post them with the Grabbers on, cuz they do look totally sweet. I'll also be sure to give you guys the whole story on the lift install.

Thanks again for everything, cuz without this forum, I'd be totally L.O.S.T.!!!!

What PSI do you run the grabbers at? What will you loss be on them once you sell them and buy new? How much better mileage will you need to get and for how long until you recoop that loss?

I'll have to check what they're aired at now. Just got them mounted and balanced on Monday. As far as better mileage and recooping the loss, that's my current dilemma that I haven't really decided on. It's whether to spring the money for the new tires and sell vs. how long would it take for me to spend that type of money on gas. I'll have to see what kind of price they quote me at on Saturday to make my final decision I guess.

Thanks nolakj!

Cool, thanks Jeepjeepster. I was hoping you'd chime in since I saw you had the tires and sold them also. I really do absolutely love the tire, but just doesn't seem very practical for me right now. Definitely post the pics when you get your new tires mounted. Thanks for the help!!

If ya know anyone looking for the Grabbers, point 'em my way!

Thanks!

It's not just the tires, the lift lowers your gas milage too. I ran two sets of tires, stocker goodyears and goodyear mtr on moabs. I only got an extra mile or two per gallon with the stockers.

Thanks BakerKJ....yeah, I'm wondering if since I made my bed, I should just lie in it. We'll see what type of price they quote me on Saturday, that will probably be the determining factor in the end.

BTW, like the "dog hair" mod on the KJ. Classic!!!

I think 14 mpg instead of 16 isn't that bad when you consider eating $800 for another set of tires

Sell them and get new ones. Simple as that. Get what you need not what you want.

pick up an extra set of rims and tires. if you watch the for sale section you can do well their. then you put the general's on for fun, and use the stockers daily. that's what eddo does, and what i plan to do.

are your 254/75R16 Grabbers load range E? if so then the weight of them is probably robbing the most mileage from you... I ended up going with the 255/70R16 size because they are P-rated and not near as heavy as the E-rated tires... The grabbers I have didn't really have much of an effect on mileage to care...
Jeepjeepster had the same tire I do, but he mounted them on steel wheels, which are heavier than the stock aluminum wheels, which is why I think he took a hit in mileage as well. But, he had no choice really because his stock wheels are 17's.

like was posted above, it's what you need vs. what you want... and go from there to make the best possible combination.

Mark

This is exactly why I do not want to go over 245/70R16

Thanks for the input everyone....I'll see what type of deal the guy at the tire shop can throw together tomorrow and go from there. If he gives me a good deal, I'll go with it, and make up at least some of the cost by selling the Grabbers. I'd really like to get a second set of wheels like Moose suggested, but I wasn't really even planning on spending this much already so far, but oh well, Just Empty Every Pocket I guess!!! :P

OK, going to the tire shop tomorrow, and will probably be going with the Nokian Vatiiva. Seems like it's getting good reviews on some of the forums out there, and the guy at the shop said he's really impressed with them. They look like they have a Revo-type tread pattern.

I'll give the Grabber AT2's a week or two on here to see if I get anyone interested in them, before moving on to eBay. I'm considering all reasonable offers, so someone will be getting the AT2's at an absolute steal.

I'll post pics with both tires when I take em, and start my lift thread.
