Hey everyone, I just baught my first Jeep 5 weeks ago. It's an 05 KJ. I rented one while on vacation and fell in love with it. So when i got back, the first thing i did was go to my girlfriends dealer and luck would have it they had 4 to choose from. Got the newest one and 1 week later its at the dealer for 2 etc codes p0172 and p0175. 3 dealers refused to service it (its still under warrenty) because i did not buy it from them. 1 dealer lied about a reflash (checked the pcm's program and it was not current and no CARB tag under the hood) another dealer again failed to diag and just reflashed the pcm. The dealer that my liberty lives in now has replaced 4 o2 sensors, and 1 PCM. Called chrysler corp. 3 times and they were of no help ( one rep told me that my warrenty was not transferable because the vin is from the UK! meanwhile the MSO was originaly flipped in tenafly NJ and there was only one owner) Well, thankfully my girl's dealer, unlike all Chrysler Corps Dealers, they actualy DO have loaners instead of the $35 enterprise cars all the Jeep dealers tried to screw me with. So now i'm hating life in a 06 Mitsu Galant loaner, not very good on the trails. Don't get me wrong, I love my KJ, but as far as chrysler corp is conserned, they can go chock on a fat one. I've worked as a tech for 6 years with honda, subaru and mazda, and never heard of a customer being shafted like this. !no loaners!?!?! (why do i have a warrenty? i would have spent $1050 on a loaner so far!) I will keep my KJ, but as for me, First Jeep, last Jeep. Its been real disappointing to say the least. If anyone has any ideas about the etcs, PLEASE HELP!!!

Sorry to hear you're getting the run around for warranty work. I'm going to move this into general so it'll get some more views and maybe even some help. Good luck.

I can understand where you're coming from, but I think you may just have a bad taste in your mouth from the bad dealership. That definitely would make me feel that way. When I first got my KJ, which is my first Jeep, I was going to a crappy dealership and that basically put me in a bad mood. Once I found the one that I go to now, I love my Jeep more and more every day. Once you find a good dealership, it does wonders for peace of mind.

Hope it all works out for ya.

Sorry to hear that your are beiing treated like crap, looks lik your KJ had this problem all allong, why else would somebody turn in a 1 year old KJ and why else does it brake down within a week.
The dealer who sold you the car is responsible for taking care of this problem and they are also responsible for selling you a UK car without telling you, ask for the manager and explane wat the problem is, if that does not help you should write to DC as they are responsible for the warranty (warranty is world wide and if it is a uk Jeep it will have a 3 year warranty).
Write down exactly what happened to you KJ with dates and Millages and give them all the details of the dealers and their diagnoses, give them a deadline for when you expect their reaction to your problem.
Allways stay calm and friendly but als be firm.

I have been there, done it and got the service I expected in the end.

Good luck and if you need more advice, here is the place.

Should not every UK Liberty have the steering wheel on the right side of the car and being labelled as "Cherokee" ?

So I think the dealer was talking nonsense when telling performancechef that his car has an UK VIN!

Could be owned by somebody of US armed forces stationed in the UK, but then it will be lefthand drive and an American import with an American ViN number which has been shipped back to the US.
:?

Northbee is right, all UK KJ's have the steering wheel right and are called Cherokee, they also come with UK lighting (rear fog, side indicators instead of trale rated badges) and have the radio antenna inside the right rearest window.
They also come with the rear number plate assembly on the spare and the rear bumper does not have the indentation for the US numberplate.

The more I think about it the more I think your dealer is bull.....ing you.

Thanks to everyone for all the advice. The car in fact is not a UK car. It was DC corp. that ran the vin and got a UK #. The MSO (manufacturer's service order) was converted to a title in NJ to the first owner. I called DC 5 times to no avail and while also bitting my tounge till it bleeds. The dealers do recognize the warrenty, just don't want to service it because " i didn't buy it from them", so i get the "sensored word treatment" Its now at the sixth Jeep dealer (subletted through the dealer i purchased it from) What realy sucks is i am paying for a car that i am not driving. Sure one can say i should be thankful i got a loaner to drive but on the other hand, how anoyed are you when you order lunch and get the wrong food. Sure it will fill you up just the same. But its not what you paid for. And here we are talking about a $15000 truck and not a $5.00 sandwich. Thanks again for listening to my rants. Its better ranting here then screaming my head off at a service manager :x

P.S. does anyone have experience with the Federal Magnussond Moss Warrenty Act? It looks very tempting to act on it at this point.
thanks again

I strongly recommend you contact the Better Business Bureau regarding the dealer that sold it to you. Also look into New Jersey's Lemon Law. http://www.state.nj.us/lps/ca/brief/used.pdf Just pulled this from the NJ website:

The consumer is responsible for bringing the motor
vehicle to the dealer and may be entitled to a refund of
the used motor vehicle’s full purchase price if:
■ the dealer has been unsuccessful at fixing the
same material defect after at least three attempts.

I don't have Federal Magnussond Moss Warrenty Act experience.
