winshield damage.

I got a chip fixed the other day and then noticed today I have a teeny tiny one that might be spidering. Can this be fixed or is it too late? Thanks.

Never hurts to take it in. I am sure the glass place would be able to tell you better than I. Those places can work miracles sometimes though.

Two weeks after getting my KJ, I got a rock in the windshield that produced a spider about the size of a half dollar (I have very rotten luck with windshields). I called around and most repair places said they only go as large as quarter, for the spider, but I found one that would give it a try. It came out "just OK", I can still clearly see the spider and chip, but it's about dead center in the windshield and not in my direct vision, so it doesn't bother me. Their guarantee is that if it spreads, the cost of the chip repair will be deducted from the replacement cost of the windshield. So far, the spider has spread a tiny bit on a couple of the legs, but I can live with it. If one of them really takes off, especially this winter, then I'll have to replace the windshield.

They can stop drill small cracks in the windshield to prevent them from getting any bigger.

I have 3 stone chips in my windshield and so far none have spidered out yet...

I chipped the windsheild in my KJ about a year after having it. When I got my TJ, the dealer asked if I wanted "Dimond Fusion" put on it. I said what the heck, it makes it eayser to see out of at night and when its raining so sure. Low and behold, 2 weeks ago, a truck on the highway threw a rock and hit my windsheild. Because of the Dimond Fusion, the crack has not moved at all! Plus they may warantee it and give me a new one for free. Everyone should look into it becuase this stuff is awsome!

I'd go ahead and upgrade your insurance for free glass replacement. It cost me something like $9 more a year to do that. I'm on windshield NUMBER 4 (FOUR) and yes, there is a tiny chip and a half-inch spider on it too.

It's all goood.

My insurance even paid for the chip repairs (2 at once)...if it broke all the way, they'd cover that too...and AFAIK, it's no extra cost to my policy.

we have been on the highway doing 70+ and heard a rock hit we have even wachted one hit ,it was almost in slo-mo when it happened even though we were going highway speed and nothing

I always though that we had a super special windsheild :wink:

Yeah its a coating that the dealer puts on. I dont remember how much it ran me because I got the interior and paint protection with the Dimond Fusion all as a package. It was a night and day difference when the dealer put it on for me. I HIGHLY recomend it to anyone who has issues with cracking windsheilds or wheels enough to actually need a windsheild that is 10 fold stronger than stock.

My windshield is like a starfield.. I have no clue how in the world I got all those tiny little marks, when I drive against sun, I can see all those spots.
I wanted to replace the windshield with the one that has tinted sunscreen.. I wonder if there was any way to replace that without getting a big chip on the windshield.

I have never had as many cracking problems with any windshield on any vehicle I've ever owned. I had the KJ windshield replaced (the "chip" was bigger than a dollar bill (which is the cutoff point for patching cracks here) once already (18k miles). So I had it replaced and, oddly enough, the dealership actually had it done cheaper than anyone else I could find!

Go figure. Anyway, I get it replaced so I can pass inspection, then, the next day, on the way to work, before I have a chance to get the actual inspection done...yep...WHACK!

This one was small enough to get patched though, which marks the first time in my long illustrious driving career that I have ever had a "patchable" crack. Geico doesn't pay PBBBBT for you to get a windshield replaced. They will, however, jack up your rate if you tell them about it, then make you pay for the whole thing 'cause the cost is lower than your deductible.

I need to change insurance companies.

J/K, it sounds like a good product especially for areas that sand heavily in winter...in my area they use small pea gravel on icy roads, so you can imagine what our windshields (and painted surfaces) end up looking like. Whenever I get a "serious" rock chip I hustle in and get it filled before it spreads. But I know what you mean, hyedipin, about a starfield windshield: mini chip-ettes that are invisible in their hundreds until you drive into the sun... :shock:

This Diamond fusion stuff might be good for that problem.

Same here Dogparty. Geico sucks as far as glass replacement. I have had 2 cracks patched and then a replacement. The patches held fine until a boulder (seemed like it anyway) took out the glass. Replacement are relatively inexpensive on the KJ though. $225 I think I paid...

When I replaced the windshield on my 01 VW Jetta it was over $300. When I replaced the one on the KJ it was only $125! And that was the dealership paying a secondary company to come into their bay and replace it! I couldn't believe it. The KJ windshields are definitely lower-priced than some of the other ones I've seen.

looks like diamond fusion is a great solution without replacing the glass.
Although if there is any way I could get replacement with the tinted one, I wouldn't wait a second. Let me ask my dealer how much it would cost, maybe $500 (which is the deductable on my allsatate) I should ask allstate how much does it cost to add replacement into my policy

Nice thing about Dimond Fusion is that if you do crack the windshield, 1. it wont spead at all! and 2. take it to the dealer because it may be under warantee by Dimond Fusion for a free replacement. Great stuff!
