I needed to get my spare mounted higher ( TrailReady Rear Bumper ) to use my hitch but didn't want to impede access thru the rear window. This will also get you a litle more clearance when climbing ( used to hit my spare every once in a while in the distant past.

Just turn the spare tire carrier upside down...it will be a little higher but that will be fine ( even with 265-75-16s ) because it angles out at the top slightly...I did put two wheel spacers between the tire and the carrier also. The carrier angles inward in the stock position to allow for the curvature of the rear door. Now it angles outward at the top...not too bad at all.

Just a little something I discovered recently.

hmm, thats definately a cheaper alternative than buying that thing from Rusty's. Wonder if flipping it would make it high enough to clear the bumper when I put my 32"s on...

I bought this for my KJ when I decided to go bigger w/ LT255's. The way this mount attaches to the stock mount, it turns the spare tire lug pattern upside down.

Darby.....did the holes still line up or did you have to drill new holes?

Hammer......$39 or just a little labor (if the holes line up)? I'll take the money savings....Just me.

Darby, Pics please.........

Whatever works for you.

The reason I bought that was to get the spare tire (LT255) further away from the glass. It's main purpose is to extend the tire away from the body. It does an excellent job.

The holes definately line up. When I picked my Jeep up from the body shop last time they had the space mount on upside down.

Nice to see you again Wally. We still need to go wheeling, give me a call some time!
