In the US I think we are limited to 95mph...but I imagine that limit is much higher over in Europe where they drive on the autobahn.

CC on Magnum worked to 110 mph before wife ask me why we were going so fast. On the CRD only had CC to 100 mph, before RADAR detector went off.

My Grand Marquee would pull like a demon right up to 107mph, then the computer would take over and that was that. It would hold 107mph but you could not get it any faster.

I just had to try it after watching a cop’s show where they were chasing some guy in “my car” .

The cop in the interceptor was yelling “ Were topping 150 were topping 150 “, yeah right I guess the thief just happened to steal a Mercury Grand Marquee with a high performance chip.

I believe that my experience is typical as far as mpg. First 5k miles, mpg was in low 20s range, 5-20k miles mpg crept up to around 22-23 on avg, once I got to around 20k (fully broken in?) the mpg average moved up to around 25-26 and has stayed there (now have 36k). Winter weather with cold temps and winter blend seems to reduce mpg about 10%. My mpg is based on 80% hiway @ 75mph. My high mpg was 28 last summer. My lowest ever was 19.5 in city driving last winter.

Short trips also cause a drop in mpg as well. It might be better to let car idle for a few minutes while waiting for someone rather than turn it off . Of course, if you are alone you would not want to leave it running while you went inside a store, etc.

Add a K&N 33-2233 or intake, more air flow will help gas milage, CRD will suffer on short trips because engine runs most efficiently when running warm (longer trips) 2500 mi. average 23/26mpg (city/highway)in high altitude.

Last fill on the CRD was 21 mpg. The magnum driven same % of city/highway miles came in at 26 mpg and rides a heck of a lot better. 8)

However the Magnum ain't worth a crap in 14" of snow.

You also have to remember that virtually no vehicle gets the "rated" milage and these things are only rated for 22/26 (some of us get a little better, some a little worse). By the time you through short trips, fast driving, redlights, parking lots your mileage will drop significantly whether its a Honda Civic or Liberty. The 2005 Limited I was driving while mine was in the shop was getting 9 to 12 around town (in weekend traffic no less) about 20 on the highway and 15 average. I was actually shocked that the gaser was that bad. At those number a nice 20 all around for a broken in Liberty sounds pretty good!

The ratings are determined using the same method for all vehicles -- gas or diesel. Driving a diesel like a gasser earns worse mileage than driving with a little thoughtfulness for the engine. So, the standard gasser test done to provide a rating for diesel is flawed. Plenty of people routinely get mileage in the CRD much higher than the official MPG rating.

My second tank is going alot better, I have over 250 miles on it and it's still showing above 1/2 tank on the gauge.

I think I found the trick. :D  Keep the wife out of the driver seat

At 20k miles, I can get 31MPG on a flat highway (32 with a tailwind). I can also get down to 19MPG when I spend a whole tank doing WOT red-light launches and rush-hour burst acceleration. Turbo-equipped vehicles (gas and diesel) can have drastically different MPG ratings depending on driving style.

The second half of the gauge is a bit smaller than the first half. I remember the first few times I saw 250 at 1/2 tank. Man was I psyched. Doesn't always end up being a 500 mile tank though. Don't worry, as everyone else has stated, you bought the truck right at the beginning of winter (which is what I did last year). You're mileage will stay low (relative to your expectations) until the winter blend stuff is gone. Then, one day next spring, you'll be going over your budget and you're realize that your wife's Miata needs more fuel money per month than your truck. Oh, wait...that was me!

Second tank I got 21.6 mpg. feeling a bit better.

But Diesel jumped over $.10 a gallon to $2.68 a gallon.

Why don't all the big trucking firms do a nation wide drivers strike I'm sure that would bring Deisel prices down.

This won't work.

And even if it did, the prices would drop due to low demand.

Then when you enjoy those low prices, they go right back up due to increased demand.

You just can't win. The same applies with gas.

I know it probably wouldn't work but I was thinking more along the lines of either the Diesel prices drop or we stop making delivery's and pickups.

I drove OTR for a while.

This country would come to a screeching halt if the truckers stooped moving.

I wish I knew of something that would work. But sadly it looks like we are just going to have to get used to being raped every time we need fuel.

The prices are always a little higher in the winter months because of demand for home heating oil. They usually drop slightly in the spring time.
