I think someone did this poll earlier this year, but...WTF, I'm bored. I have an automatic and I hate it. Well, I don't hate this particular auto worse than any other auto...I just can't stand auto trannies. I'd much rather have the 6-speed manual that the Euro and Aussie guys (can) get with their diesels.

Naw, don't worry about deleting it man. It's nice to revisit some topics, and I think this is one of them.

Most of us are going to have autos though, because the OVERWHELMING majority of KJs were built with them. There are a few 5-speeders here and some 6-speeders.

The CRD was only available with auto in America and Canada (stupid bean-counters don't think we'd buy manual).

The take rate on the auto should be around 70% considering world wide sales figures... Just a guess though

BTW: DCX wants to do away with as many manual transmissions for North America (Canada included) as possible.

The majority of Americans (young ones) wouldn't have the first clue about even starting an automobile with a manual trans. I can say this cause I'm only in my mid-20's, of course I drove a manual Ford Ranger from 16 up until I got my CRD in 05.

You are exactly right, I'm not sure why, but I think it's ridiculous. I for one will not buy an automatic vehicle and when DCX does finally phase them out I will probably buy a Toyota or something. Or maybe just buy more old military vehicles...

If you off-road in the Rockies and around a bunch of big rocks, there is a nice advantage of using the Auto over the Manual.

I was looking for a 5 speed when I bought the KJ but they weren't available yet.So I got the auto.Love thew weird shifting thing.BTW I have an '02 with the 45RFE trans.Tough piece. And I hate mud so rocks are all I do and the auto is much less strenuous to drive in the rocks.

I never buy automatics as a rule, out of the 10 jeeps I've owned, this is my first with an auto. My 4x4 ranger and focus st are manual and the wife said we need one automatic. She can drive a manual, but perfers auto, so we compermised, I got the jeep and she got the auto. I really don't need 3 vehicles, but I've allways had a jeep setting around, and it just didn't seem natural. I haven't had one since I sold my 02 wrangler. If there's not a ford and a jeep in my driveway, it up sets a balance in the universe. I wasn't to sure about this kj thing, but it was better than the compass she was eyeing up. The liberty has surpassed my expectations, it's 100% jeep and very trail worthy, it's fun and comfortable, a new concept for me with jeeps ha ha. Now I just need to add an old yj to my collection, and I'm done for a while and it will be a manual.

Yea, the kj is by all means trail worthy.. Thats been proven to many times to question now.

I would rather have a auto on rocks. Just driving around or towing something, manual all the way.. 8)

Sports cars MUST be manual. I'll take my Jeep in auto.

I had a `73 MG Midget once and it wouldn't have been the same if it was auto....though the tranny probably would've survived longer. Those things were extremely delicate. The sound of that british sports car engine revving as you shifted.......

I prefer the safety and control the manual offords over the automatic. Plus, I have driven home vehicles with manual transmissions with busted housings and no fluid before. Try that with an auto. No fluid, no go. Plus there is less heat, a more solid connection to the engine with no slip, better engine braking, and you can pick exactly the right ratio for the job.

You and me both.. I am anti automatic just for these two reason. In the Liberty I don't mind the Auto, but I don't like its gear selection in certain situations for sure.

Back on your reply about the phasing out... That is why I haven't bought a Magnum or 300C (No manual transmission) DCX won't loose a lot of customers like that, but they will lose enough.
