Synthetic not recommended.?.

I just picked up my 06 limited, and asked the service dept. about running synthetic oil. They claim Chrysler doesnt recommend running synthetic in the engine but it will not void the warrenty.. Why wouldnt they recommend it? Anyone experience any leaking oil using a Synthetic? I use it in my subaru wrx, but thats a car. Not sure how the jeep world works.

There should be no problem using Syn over Dino. As long as it meets the API rating, it will be fine. Our CRD's come with Syn Mobil to handle the added heat of a turbo and to help control soot. A sysnthetic of the same API rating and weight will outperform dino.

I've always heard on a brand new motor like yours to use conventional for definitely the first oil change, and then switch. Something about letting the rings seat properly. This was the case when I had rebuilt the motor on an AWD Turbo Eclipse I had years ago. The guys at TAD Motorsports told me that info.

I've been running Mobil1 synthetic in mine and have had no problems whatsoever.

It will be fine. SYN will not harm anything. If anything it will be better for the engine. :wink:

Great way for the service dept. to try and get more money out of you too. Did they also tell you that you could only get your vehicle worked on there too. How about that old 3000 mile oil change deal? It's funny that brand new vehicles are now coming with synthetics in them and some mfg's are suggesting extended service intervals. It isn't the 60's any more, synthetics are here and they are the way to go. Also, synthetics don't cause leaks, if anything, the additives in them are even better for seals. A leak free engine shouldn't have any problems switching over. My 1994 Cherokee w/ 181,000 + miles on it Loves Amsoil synthetics and is leak free. Go for it, use synthetics, your Jeep will love it!

The old "you can't break an engine in with synthetic oil" myth is still around? It was bull before it's bull pucky now.

I switched over both my KJ's at thier first oil chng. as a matter of fact my dealer sells it ( MOBILE 1) & recomends it

I took the plunge today at 12,200 miles and ordered some Amsoil oil, gear lube, additive and a filter from JJsKJ. I figured it was the right time to make the change being that I was getting the differentials changed. I think the KJ is running better already, just knowing the good stuff is on the way.

I talked to the service manager at the local dealership before taking the 06 home. I asked specifically about synthetics and he said that there's no problem with switching at the first oil change and that all warranties are covered. I'll switch to Mobile one. There's nothing wrong with amsoil but I got tired of paying extra for the privilege of purchasing it.

I've heard that also,my dealer told me it's OK to switch back & forth during the warm months & go full syn in winter

My KJ runs smoother with Amsoil 5/30 and will also switch both diff. fluids and tranny fluid to amsoil soon,For ten bucks you can get a good discount from hotrodoil.com.Well worth it in the long run.

I am also giving other deals too. I have been treating retired & active military, police officers, firefighters & teachers to My Cost this month. I can also work out other deals and discounts for L.O.S.T. members. I am trying my darndest to take care of the folks on this forum.
When were you ever sorry for spending good money on the Best? I see so many people here shopping for the best products and spending good money on them and then they skimp on their oil & filters, the lifeblood of their engine and drivetrain and they are looking to save a few dollars. If you just spend a few extra dollars up front on the Best synthetic lubes and filters and then extend your service intervals a little, at the least it equals out in time saved not to mention the cost of doing service more often. Amsoil is the originator of Automotive synthetic lubes, since 1972 and they are leading the competition. Do your own research if you don't believe me and draw your own conclusions, I did and that is why I became a dealer.
Even if you don't go w/ Amsoil, I still beleive you are doing good to use some other brands of synthetics and make sure to use a Good quality filter like Wix, NO FRAM CRAP! I sell Wix too and so does Napa and Car Quest, just make sure to ask for their best filters when you buy. I wouldn't trust those others to more than 5K miles or 6 months though unless you are changing out the filter and adding in another Qt. to extend the interval. Anyhow, enough of my rambling on. Usually any kind of SYN is good besides amsoil.. Ive heard that stuff is on the cheap side and is only a SYN Blend.. :lol:

Another myth, the Amsoil company the first auto syn, has always from day one been an all synthetic oil, using the most expensive, top of the line additives. In fact the oil base is so good that it needs less additives or none at all to far exceed the oil specs. That said they sell or at least used to sell a parasynthetic mix oil for people who didn't want the full syn. If you mix any syn oil with dino you decrease it's benefits some, but if you have to add dino oil to get where your going it will harm nothing.
I've used the stuff for over 20 years, was a dealer for a few years originally.
Have used the oil in my racing bikes for the same amount of time. I lost a seal once and dumped out most of the oil on the trail in a enduro, the oil let me finish the loop/race, as is, with zero problems except it got a little noisy in gears lower than 3rd gear. The tranny had no visible damage when toredown.
The Husgavarna motorcycles used to have an auto tranny version, that needed oil changes every ride, and at times overheated, causing oil damage. Installed some Amsoil auto tranny oil for a friend to try, the bike was a completely different machine. All problems disappeared, wear was dramatically reduced also.
I've never tried a Amsoil product that wasn't top notch, or a company that backed their products better.

Synthetic not recommended.?.
