We spent the day over there yesterday and we finalized the route for the FATR. It is not difficult, some of it is very rough (rocky), but is doable in a stock KJ. You will definitely want to bring your camera. We will travel through Juniper Forrest, Pine Forrest, former burn area's, dirt, cinders, a little mud, and rocks. We will climb to a former lookout tower where you will have an awesome view of the snow capped peaks. If time permits we will finish with a final climb up one of the cinder mountains in the area.
I recieved no response for Sat. so it will just be a Sunday only run.

Where:: Flagstaff, AZ.

Metting point:: The entrance to Cider Hills OHV Area. Hy89 north from Flagstaff Mall 7.7 miles, turn right onto FR 776 (there is a sign for Cinder Hills OHV Area, N35*19'42.5", W111*32'40.6"). approx. 1/8 mile in, there is a small parking area to the north, we'll gather there. From there we will travel north on Hy89 and enter the forrest west of 89

When:: 11/12/06

Start Time:: 10:00am (it is Sunday)

Run Time:: 5-6 hours we will try to be finished by 3-4pm

Highlights:: awesome views, snow capped mountains, tall pines, rocks

Difficulty:: Easy to Moderate

Food:: Bring your lunch so we can eat on the trail.

Limit:: None, everyone welcome!

A week away!!! :D Hope to see some of you guys next Sunday. I put an invitation on the 4WDTrips.net forum that I am a member of, so we might have a guest or two from there. We are going to go tomorrow and cut two trees that have fell across the trail in one very little used section that we will travel down to prevent any further destruction by people driving off the trail to get around them. :evil: There are three but one is bigger than my saw.....but, I might try to move it some anyway.

We got the trees cut and moved today. Took the KJ and used it to pull the bigger tree from the trail, I should have taken my Ram as the KJ had a time getting it moved but it did it! Then we pre-run some of the route that we hadn't run for a while and got to see some wild turkey's and deer. See ya next Sunday.

Yep! We are a go for fun, sun, and clean mountain air.

Saturday (24 hours): Mostly cloudy. Highs in the mid 50s and lows in the mid 20s.
Sunday (24 hours): Plenty of sun. Highs in the low 50s and lows in the low 20s.

Chuck,

Can you reply with the CB channel, and walkie-talkie channels we are going to use. For example:

CB channel 4
Walkie Talkie 2-7

Thanks,

Todd

Darn! My tentative yes has turned into an unfortunate but definite no. See everyone in December.

CB Channel 4 (I will monitor the channel if anyone has trouble finding the meet spot)
Walkie Talkie ? (I don't use one so I can't say)

Our first snow run of the year, hopefully not our last. Great pictures everybody, even though they don't do the day justice. I had a blast hanging out with some great folks! Look forward to many more. I didn't get many pictures, I was too busy having fun.

Wow! What beautiful country! I envy you folks out west. Nothing like that in IN. I don't think we have fire roads. (What's a fire road?) Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Hey T.J.
I am originally from IN. (Muncie) And I love it out here!!! I will not go back!!! Anyway, an FR or Forrest Road (some call them Fire Roads) are roads that were originally cut through the forrest so that fire fighters could access forrest fires from the ground in a more timely manner. This is still the case but they provide access to remote areas for many types of recreation. And to me and many like me it provides a means of travel throughout the west when we want to avoid pavement!! I can leave my town and drive a couple hundred miles and only cross a paved road once or twice.
