Folks,

My Dana 35 and no-slip, gotta go...I'm a sissy !!

I found two 8.25's to choose from and I have questions. I have a 2002 with drums.

#1 8.25 (39K miles) with drum brakes, trac-loc, 4.10's from a 4cyl model.

My questions: Is trac-loc that bad? Can my computer be programmed for 4.10's instead of 3.73's??? Will trac-loc keep you rolling at all with other tire off the ground with or without any brake tricks??

# 8.25 open (20K miles) with drums, 3.73, perfect for tru-trac. (more work)

Questions: What model rear trutrac are yall using? Is the 2002 8.25 the same as the rest?

You cannot have different gearing front and rear. If you get 4:10 gears on the rear, youve got to get them for the front.

Ive read the trac-loc will not keep you moving if 2 wheels are off the ground without pulling the ebrake.

All 8.25's are the same in all the libbys besides the drums and disc change in 03 or whenever it was.

Oh yeah, Look at this: I got the 198 RBI Super 35.

Jeepster, Mine is a 4x2

Are you sure the # of splines are the same...How many is that anyway??

I know , I'll never have the pulling power as with the POWER CRAX unless I go to a Switch locker. My noslip is just a parking lot nightmare.

Oh! Well, if I was you I would change to 4:10 gears for sure! It will take some highway mpg away but will help in the city and for sure offroad! you could get bigger tires and not have to worry about loosing torque either! There are some positives to a 4x2!!

Yes, 29 splines all through the years.

I'm pretty sure your speedo will be ok if you go to the 4.10's since the speed sensor is in the diff counting the number revolutions your tire makes. However, if you go to a larger than stock tire size your speedo will be off.

Go with #1. If you're not off roading, which I assume you're not since you have a 4X2, the trac-loc is plenty. The 4.10's will get you moving quicker, and shouldn't cost you too much mpg at interstate speeds considering the overdrive ratio of the 42RLE is .69:1. It's a noticeable drop with the 45RFE and a .75:1 overdrive. The 4.10's will not affect your speedometer. All you need to do is reset your computer, and it will figure out the 4.10's.

Changing gears shouldn't affect your speedometer as wheel speed is read from the ring gear which is directly linked to the wheels.

( stupid YOU ME 'D) I've put my locked 4x2 through more than most of you will EVER put your 4x4 through and I have the 45RFE tranny. I do frequently have the tires off the ground so I wanted to know if trac-loc will put any usable power to the on ground tire. I know the tru-trac will with brake modulation as I have it in my chevy.

So thats what that wire is for

So, I don't need the dealer to reprogram nothing for the gear change?

NEXT !!!!
