Hey guys, lets chat about new rots and pads for the front of my 02 Renegade! I'm looking into POWERSLOT rotots and EBC Green 6000 Series pads. For those of you who have this, where did you buy them? The cheapest prices I"ve seen are 190 for both rotots and 70 for the pads. Is this a good deal? Has anyone paid a cheaper price? Or am I just making a stupid mistake by buying these and should buy something else?!

Thanks!!!
ADAM

My dad and i installed these crossed and drilled rotors when my factory ones wore out. The performance with these has been great. Although my father purchased these from a local shop you can get ones similar to these at places like bestbrakes.com. The 2 rotors, the zinc plating and a pair of hawk performance brake pads came to around $350. Install was pretty straight foward.

I got the powerslots and hawken pads for about 190 U.S. from Ebay.

I would definetly try E-bay.

No clue how they work, still sitting in the garage after a year... :? So now that the brakes in front are grabbing good, I will put these on when the current wear out.

Pads don't have a shelf life do they?

Pads do not have a shelf life that I know about. If you change to a cross drilled or slotted rotor I do belive that you are going to have a hard time getting them resurfaced because the bit on the machine will grab ahold of the hole or grove. The only reason to really have this is for high speed braking and heat transfer.

So should I just get some new rotors from Chrysler or NAPA or someplace like that? I don't think I'd go with another set of Chrysler, because they aren't that great to begine with.

All I know is that on older cars when u changed pads u didn't need to change rotors. My last 2 american cars (Camaro and current Libby), everytime the freakin pads wore out I had to go for new rotors. This wasn't just from the dlr either. Sears, Pep Boys, Strauss and dlr all told me newer cars have thinner rotors hence having to replace them. To me this is just a blatant rip off. Planned obselescence at it's best! I expect pads to be a replacement item but almost $200 for a pair of rotors every 30k miles or so! Can't tell me older cars had better technology.

I personally plan on using the powerslot rotors when I have to replace mine. I will also be replacing the rear drums on mine although back there I'll probably use standard rotors.

The slots help air flow to keep the rotor cool which helps performance. It may not be a race car but it is a 5000lbs Jeep. Several have used the Powerslot and reported significant stopping improvements.

Not sure what you were looking for with this post. When you mentioned "chat" I expected you wanted the chat room. Not sure if its even setup yet. Anyway I didn't pay attention to the thread at first because of that.

Powerslot rotors have been working very well for me. In fact, they work so well that my kevlar pads don't heat up enough to really grip like they would on normal rotors. I'm switching pads to something like the brembos.

Sorry buddy, I thought it was just a funny and clever way to start a thread about new rotors and brake pads. haha I'm in the market for rotors and thinking about the powerslots and wanted other peoples opinions.

I had a 2000 Chevy S-10 pickup that wore out factory roters in 15000 miles. The aftermarket replacements only lasted for 25000 miles. Will be keeping close eye on the Liberty

The whole not being able to be resurfaced bit is a bunch of whooey. I have yet to see a vehicle that cant be resurfaced. And the whole it is a 5000 pound vehicle thing does not mean you need upgraded rotors and pads. I have got 40k on mine and they are still kicken. I guess it is up to personal preference. I have seen what happens to these rotors on Fire Co. First responder vehicles (which is usually Tahoe and larger) they crack where the groves are. So it is up to you on what you want to buy.

My oem rotors were still repairable at 95k, although the front right had more "grooveage" than any other. I could've machined them, but chose not to. I changed them out of GP, since my pads were beyond DONE. The rotors DC uses are solid, but remember how heavy and hard to stop the libby is. you really should check/clean them every tire rotation/oil change.

Brakes are always a good topic. There really is no magic formula that works best for everyone. Each car is so different as well as driving styles. I personally have been very happy with the Liberty's brakes. I'm a fairly agressive driver and they still look great at 35,000 miles and work as good as can be expect with the tires on it (the tires stop the car, not the brakes).

Now my other car is a different story. '02 Maxima with 39k. I've had them turned once after warpage and they've warped again and I have Brembo blanks on order (far superior to OEM on this car and most). Not sure which pads yet.

Another is my '99 Civic Si. 70k and still on factory rotors but many, many pad changes. It's tracked and autocrossed so pads go quick but the rotors have held up very well.

I've never had a need or desire for slotted and/or drilled rotors. They would never provide me much benefit other than just looking cool!

Lots of factory options, a couple of aftermarket things,
a big ol'car seat in the middle.
