Yeah your auto insurance will cover it minus any deductible.

FYI... If a truck or any vehicle throws a stone from their tire, the driver is not liable. It's called road hazard. However if a gravel trailer throws a stone from the trailer interior, then that driver could be liable. That's why many states enforce tarp laws. But also know this, it's sometimes hard to prove the truck threw the stone from within the trailer. The driver can easily submit proof he was hauling sand, not stone. Needless to say, good luck if you ever find yourself up against that dilemma.

I hate to be the jerk, but it's no ones fault but yours. Dont try to pawn it off on the dealer or the design of the Jeep. If you have been parking there for a while now, how many times has your antenna caught on the tree before and been flung arond? Sucks that happened, but call your insurance company, thats why you have it.

Thanks for the lecture. Fact is, I've brushed the antenna up against much bigger branches on the trail at a much higher rate speed and nothing bad has happened. I still think it's a design flaw, but if nobody else sees it that way and this hasn't happened to anybody else out on the trail, maybe I'm wrong and this is just a fluke occurence.

RE reception with antenna off: it sucks. You can still get the stations but there's a noticeable crackle.

Thanks to everybody for the auto insurance advice. I've gotten some quotes from some online places for <$300 installed. Anybody have any experience with those types of places? For that price, it's probably not worth involving the insurance for a $50 claim.

In Reverse? I wouldn't even worry about that crack til inspection time. Prob. would pass here in utah because it not on the drivers side. Or you could get a new one it would look good untill you catch another rock on the highway. just my 2 cents.

Go to any car / truck and grab the antenna and pull it back AWAY from the windshield about a foot or so, or how ever far your tree grabbed yours. Let it go and it's going to smack the windshield. Every time. Every truck. Just like your tree did. Try it

Now if you push it to the windshield and let it go, like a tree from the trail would hit it going forward, it will never hit on the return. The amount it travels will be reduced every swing.

Just a thought, but maybe you could install a roof mounted antenna like I did. I bought this MDX style antenna from locustom.com for $35 and the reception has been great especially since it's electrically amplified. I had to install the antenna here becuase I installed sidemarker lamps where the original antenna went. Although I got my sidemarker lamps from a jeep dealer in europe, I'm sure you could find similar sidemarker lamps at circuit city or online somewhere. Not only would this take care of you antenna problem, but it will also give your KJ a pretty unique look.

Here is the link

Add a spring to the antenna. Yes, a little soft LOST antenna ball would be cool. Of course, I have a Wilson Silver 3' cb antenna whrere my radio goes so a ball won't work. Spring works great.

Does anyone know what it would take to retro-fit the International antenna version to a US vehicle.

How well does the window antenna receive stations?

Christopher

Dude...your kidding right ?

Do you have to put a cork on the end of your fork to keep from poking your eye out ?

Well, technically no, but imagine what would happen if you have somebody around while you are driving and your antenna gets stuck somehow, and releases all of a sudden.

Thank God it was just a stupid windshield. That can poke an eye out of anybody. Prevention is always a good thing.

I think that Trail Rated means it will get you through the trail. I don't think it means that you will get through the trail with out a bit o trail rash. Sorry to hear about the windshield.

Just put a glob of peanut butter on the end. Next time it whips at the windshield it be protected! Be sure to use creamy though, because chunky might hurt the radio reception.

Get your "LOST" balls everyone. The only protection you need is "LOST" balls! So remember, before you back out your drive you've gotta ask yourself, "Have I my LOST balls? "

EXACTLY!! And to wonder if that might be covered under warranty...holy crap. I guess I'll never stop being amazed at the contortions people are capable of going through to escape personal responsiblity.
