Hey guys. Seems I'm leaking engine oil from somewhere, but I can't pinpoint where. It's dripped out from my engine skid and streaked down the transmission skid (caused by my driving, the leak isn't at the drain plug.) It looks as though I may have a bad seal at the oil filter, but I'm not sure why as the gasket came off still attatched to the old filter. I also noticed a good deal of oil on the bracket that surrounds the connection between the passenger side CV shaft and the diff, which seems odd to me. It was engine oil, not grease, and the boot looks like it's in good condition. There were also a few other spots of oil on the A-arms even.

What do y'all think? Is it leaking from my filter and splattering? I cleaned it all up as good as I could and after I get done driving to class in a bit I'll check again to see if there's fresh oil.

Many quick lube places will change your filter and not clean up the drippy mess...degrease and clean that area off and watch for more drips. I would bet it's leftover from your last oil change...you can also reach up there and see if your filter is seated....also possible they left the previous filter's gasket stuck to the block...I'd go with the easiest explanation first, which is sloppy clean-up after your last change.

Park it on a clean piece of cardboard over night. That will give you a good idea were the leak is coming from

Thanks for the help guys. I still haven't got it narrowed down, but after cleaning it a bit then driving I found that it seems to be coming out through the holes on the driver's side of the engine skid, but there was still some at the passenger CV. These pics will give you an idea what I'm talking about.

Red is obviously the oil dripping down, blue is the CV boot. You can also see some dark spots which I'm guessing is oil too, not sure though.

I think I'm gonna change my oil again sometime this week so I can put on a new filter and see if that solves it.

I do, but that was about 3 weeks ago. The leaks started just the other day.
