The january issue on pape 12 is a short qouote entitled :

QUOTE WITHOUT A STORY

"So I was talking to my girlfriend
last night. She goes on to tell me
that she met this really cute lame
guy. Turns out they both had jeeps
and they were talking about them.
I interrupted to ask. "what year is
his liberty? She freaked out and
said, "Oh, my God, how did you
know he had a liberty?!"
- Pete Trasborg

I don't know fellow's, but I wouldn't slam a barn door that hard, it seems we get little to no respect in the jeep comunity, you would think we were driving compass's or something. I've had the kj everywhere that I've taken my wrangler I use to own, and it went without even a whimper. Bad PR sucks, I love JP magazine, but they are starting to get on my nerves with there bias against any jeep, or scout, or bronco that isn't a wrangler or a cj. I love jeeps, all jeeps, but the old scout and 66-76 bronco could take them to school, I believe the liberty could even teach them a thing or two and in comfort to boot. I'm starting to dislike wranglers because of them, but I still want another one, since they call the yj a wrongler and make fun of it, thats the one I want to get. A liberty, a wrongler and a ranger wheeling side by side, JP's worst nightmare hee hee !!!!!

Don't blame the Wrangler for Junk Publications ignorance or bias. The best thing to do is NOT SUPPORT THEM by leaving thier junk on the magazine rack. If they don't like the Liberty or other Jeeps, then they should leave them out all together...

Everyone says "Don't support em. Don't by the mag, etc." Truth is, they are a Primedia Group Magazine. So even if you don't buy JP if you buy any of these off road mags you still support them in the long run:
4Wheel & Off Road
4Wheel Drive & Sport Utility
Diesel Power
Four Wheeler
Jp
Mini Truckin'
Off-Road
Sport Truck
Truckin'

I've noticed that at least 2 of the above magazines mention KJs in a good light occasionally. My opinion is that they sell one mag to bash the KJ and another to give it occasional praise and guess what? They get money from both ends. So, if your really POed about the way the treat KJs, don't buy any of their mags. Including:

Car Audio and Electronics

ATV Rider
Dirt Rider
Hot Bike
Hot Rod's Bike Works
Motorcycle Cruiser
Motorcycle Escape
Motorcyclist
Sport Rider
Street Chopper
Super Street Bike

Lowrider
Lowrider Bicycle
Lowrider Arte

European Car
Eurotuner
Honda Tuning
Import Tuner
Sport Compact Car
Super Street
Turbo & High-Tech Performance

5.0 Mustangs & Super Fords
Car Craft
Chevy High Performance
Classic Trucks
Corvette Fever
Custom Classic Trucks
Custom Rodder
GM High Tech Performance
High Performance Pontiac
Hot Rod
Kit Car
Mopar Muscle
Mustang & Fords

Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords
Popular Hot Rodding
Rod & Custom
Street Rodder
Super Chevy
Vette
Circle Track
Stock Car Racing

Automobile
Automotive
IntelliChoice

Still wanna boycott JP? :?

Why not? Any mag that doesn't get the sales doesn't stay around. Would we put a dent into JP sales? No, but at least you can feel better knowing you are not supporting that editor.

If people stop buying JP - their parent will still stop making it. It's not like the writers of HotRod would suffer. I ran into the same problem with GM based magazine and their bias against Grand Prix's for being wrong wheel drive. They'd write a story on an 11 second daily driver Fbody (trans am) when there are 11 second Wbodys (grand prix) also. I still bought other mags by their parent company, just not HPP. They eventually did come around and featured GP's in their shootouts.

I'd like ANY (or all)of the JP staff to say that to my face!! You're real cool sitting in a cubicle bashing other's rides knowing you can't be held accountable for your immature comments. That is unless we find out what middle school is publishing JP.

If you really want to hit them where it hurts, don't support their advertisers. That's about the only way to get back at a magazine company. I refuse to buy JP. I had a few not real nice things to say to Cappa over at The M715 Zone about their "low buck" J-20 build that suddenly turned into a unaffordable rolling advertisement for all the stuff that shops would give up for free just to have their name associated with the project and it's entry into the Top Truck Challenge. Plus that truck was just stupid looking and stupidly designed and did exactly what I said it would do, roll over.

I dont know much about JP and how bad they can get, but if they really do deserve an attitude adjustment Elwenil makes a good point. I would take it a step further though, and go out of my way to tell their advertisers that I would not buy from them if they advertise in JP. If enough people would do that the word will get around and attitudes will get adjusted appropriately.

Ya see heres the funny thing......the JP guys not only bash on the KJ, but they also (at least someone claiming to be from there) approached my Expediton Group (The KJ Expeditonary Group) knowing full well that we started the group with the Liberty as our prime support vehicles, to enquire into sponsoring us and doing a story about one of our Overland Treks....the Halifax to Denali Challenge.

My take on it......as someone above had just said...they want their name on everything and don't care about the consumer or product. They just want to move units and make money.

Unfortuneately Mr. JP magazine, we at KJ Expeditionary Group will have have to say no thank you. Your core values do not stand up to what we are about, and we refuse to support a magazine that only cares about moving their own units and making money.

What they don't seem to get is, that if you want to make money and move product....you gotta supply something real and useful. You....do not.

BTW....calling Liberty owners lame?? What is that??? Some kind of way of saying that Liberty is only capable of being handled by an effeminate male who wants something light and easy??? I don't know about you, but being from the Toronto area....I've seen alot of lame dudes who are jacked and huge and look like some pretty mean hombres...so maybe its a compliment?? I don't know....either way JP...you're priorities are backward, and we're not having any of it.

Thanks anyways.

I like Jp mag and have found alot of usefull material over the years and Bree, 'WELL SHE'S JUST HOT". I just don't know why thier so closed minded. The wrangler and cj both have short commings in the rear diff department for boulder climbing. IFS is the wave of the future and most of us deal with it just fine, I haven't broken anything on any IFS equiped vehicle and am starting to really enjoy the benifits. On my ranger, it has torson bar front suspension, instead of buYing a 1,500$ lift kit, I just cranked the t-bars to level the truck and can run up to 33" tires. Dixon Brothers makes racing IFS ranger suspensions that stronger than straight axles, it's expensive, but doable all the same. The kj is a very solid foundation and I wouldn't be afraid to take it anywhere I chose to go. Other offroad mags called the kj surprizingly offroad capable in a well thought out package. Jp buy's these 200.00$ trashed out cj's and think they have Gods gift to 4 wheeling. They need to grow up, thier really starting to piss alot of people off, you can see it in thier letter section and they think it's funny. I think we should slam them with pitures of our kj's, then maybe they'll get the hint that people do wheel them, not just a soccer mom ride.

Here is my answer to JP's position on IFS in general. Learning to drive with IFS. little tires, limited ground clearance, heavy vehicle and limited wheel travel makes you a BETTER DRIVER in the long run. With my old 2002 KJ, people used to ask if they could switch vehicles with me to try it out ( always seemed to happen on hot summer days in Texas  ). I would jump in thier CJ with SOA on 35's and they would get in my KJ with IFS on 32's. It never failed that they would get caught up on places that they KNEW I had gone before with the KJ. With the CJ, there was almost no challenge on some parts...or...my IFS training taught me to be very careful where to place my wheels. They always wanted to switch vehicles back after the second time they got "stuck"...but thier girlfriends would always ask if they could stay in the KJ with air... :D

Some of the best drivers I have seen were in stock Wranglers or even a Ford Explorer (this guy brought out his wifes Ford Explorer and went places other couldn't go...he also owned a built Zuk). Some of the worst drivers I have seen were in huge rigs that rode on 37's. They took horrible lines, had no throttle control and broke stuff when they really didn't need to go there.

maybe, a well equiped KJ, paird with a JP version of a well equiped whatever they like and take the two on a well distructive trail, with pictures and a good writer to write the story. If JP refuses to print it, some other rag will, and one can then mention that jp refused the artical.

sometimes a quite lets see the truth is louder than a protest.

We can as a group "professionally" submit a petition to their advertisers "politely" stating that we as a group are boycotting their products until JP starts to act in a manner that is consistent with the MAJORITY of JEEP owners. Or we can just sit and complain every month when a new mag comes out.

Call me a little twisted but I am starting to thrive on the nay sayers. I like watching them stare in amazement when my grocery getter does something that a Liberty shouldn't be able to do. As for the lame thing... JP...it takes one to know one.

I had rather just hit them in the pocket book and not buy the magazine.
