Step by step, how should the "key trick" work? I've tried searching on this and not had luck. Only specifics I found were for the gasser. I know some revisions of ECM software don't allow this, but some do. I would like to know from those who have done it, what works on your CRD? Thanks in advance.

P.S. We need to add this info to the fault code sticky.

Retrieving the fault codes without a scanner. The codes are supposed to be displayed in the odometer if you cycle the ignition switch on and off just right. On mine it apparently also involves vodoo, because it won't work on mine.

it doesnt work on 06 up libertys so basically DCX skrewed everyone without a scanner to see what thier codes are. :x

Edit: must be past a certain build date that they changed the programming. it has worked on every other DCX product i have owned.

For some, it stopped working after a flash. I have an 05 and have never got it to work. In the above mentioned thread a post says his 06 works by holding the trip odometer reset when turning the key on. Mine does a gauge test when I do that, but no codes.

Mine works if i switch the key between the ON position and the OFF position (one click back from the on position) four times.

Make sure the cycle starts in the off position and ends in the on position

So it goes like this : OFF-ON_OFF-ON_OFF-ON_OFF-ON(Stay in on position at the last one!)

For it to work the ECU must not have been on in the last 20 seconds or so, and I must pause in the off position each time for about one second when I cycle it. It is real finikey, you must do it just right or it won't work. Took me a few tries to get it to work.

Also be aware that there is an error, and in most people's KJ's, the last two digits of each code get transposed, so for example, a displayed code of "P0401" is actually "P0410".

Doesn't work on my 2006. Haven't had a single flash applied.

I got an 05 and all recent flashes. Worked fine before the flashes and quit working after flashes!

On mine the hold the reset and turn ignition on combo only triggers an instrument diagnostic. The gauges cycle through their range and the idiot lights light in groups. It doesn't show codes on mine. Wish it did. It is a more logical and straightforward procedure.
