Replaced the batt in my '02 this past summer. It was the first battery I've ever had that actually failed gradually like it should. Bought the Optima at Costco for $109!

If my memory serves me it's the 75/35. If I'm wrong I'll correct this tomorrow. I also seem to remember that the price evrywhere i checked locally was right around $139.

Does anyone know if there is any kind of gel or whatever that we can coat the neg battery terminal with to prevent the buildup and recurrence of corrosion?

There's a special spray that remains kind of stickey you can get for battery posts and clamps. Most parts places should have it.

Optima Red top that fits '02 (and probably others) is:

Model #12853 which is also known as a 75/35.

This battery mounted with no modification, in the original position, with factory hardware.

For what it's worth, I spray my terminals with WD40 everytime I check fluids, wash it, etc. basically everytime I have the hood open. I never have any corrosion.

I changed the Battery to an Optima Yellow Top and changed the terminals as well after about 6 months on my 02 and have never had an issue. My opinion is stock stinks .
