Rusty's Lift ....rear shocks

So I have had the lift on for like 4 days now and the rear shocks are clunking like crazy. I'm prepared to get the Rancho RSX's...but what is the correct part number, and are their any issues with them, do they fit properly? do they clunk at all?

Has anyone tried to return the shocks to Rustys? How are they?

When I got mine I found they were supplied with washers to take up the extra space on the upper mountings.
Trouble was... the washers had too big a hole in the middle so the shocks center sleeve would press through them. I couldn't get a tight fit without crushing the upper shock mounts on the body. I tossed them out for a washer that has the same ID as the shocks center sleeve.

The part number for the Rancho rear shocks are the RSX17004. I'm very happy with them so far, as I've had them on for about a month now.

if you get the 17004's, be sure and order them from 4wheelparts.com. you can get them for $50/ea. they advertise for $54/ea, but tell them you saw on the internet they were on sale for $50/ea, they'll give em to ya for that. also, you should get free shipping due to your order being over $75. i also added the free lifetime replacement no matter what you do for $5 over the total price.

dont buy them from boulderbars.com, list price there is like $60/ea.

getting these on your liberty will be one of the best things you did for it.

Go with the Ranchos, you can get the shocks at Summit Racing also for 50 each (or they were) and free shipping. They ride great

The Rusty's shocks don't dampen as well and they don't last long.

actually mine didn't I had to add 2 more washers per side to have it fit.

Mine fit fine as well... I have had no problems with my Rusty shocks.

They are only about 1/2" longer than stock though.

That is a good thing that means that they do not require bump stop spacing to avoid damage

OH wait let me guess you can run the "magic" ranchos with out bump stop spacing and not damage them right?
if a shock has 1/2" more length than stock then it is a good bet that fully closed it is only 1/4-1/2" longer than stock
so if a shock is 2" longer than stock then you should be adding at least 1/2 the differance in bumpstop spacing

I am not pointing this at ANY ONE PERSON but I all to often read about suspension problems and say to my self "no joke ,I guess so"
most of them are do to "lack of attention to details"
sure wheel travel is great but if the flip side or up side causes the shock to rest on its self then you are asking for trouble
it may not have happen yet but the day will come when it does and then you have to drive home with no shock
been there followed that guy 40 mph on the highway sucks

So Jason what is the travel on the "magical" ranchos as opposed to the 1/2" longer OME?

Im not to sure about that?

If the shock is 2in longer.. That doesnt mean that it will not compress as much as the stock shocks?

Good points. However, the rancho shocks are just the prefect length that they do not bottom out before the suspension reaches it bump stop.

If you take a look at the stock shock or OME shock and look at your suspension you will see there is still a good 1.5-2" or so of shock travel not used. OME shocks are great shocks are ride very well, its just they don't provide as much articulation due to their shorter length
