The other day driving home from a blizard the head light on my driver side burnt out in normal running mode. The high beams work and the low lights work before u turn on any lights. I was wondering if I can just replace a bulb or do I need to go ahead and get a whole new head lamp. I am headlight oblivious thanks to my last vehicle being a 90 4runner, and don't know about all these new headlights and how they work. Thanks for your time.

You just replace the bulb...9007 I think. You do it from the inside...turn the collar, pull the bulb out, unplug and reverse.

Yeah, just the bulb.. You won't be needing the whole new assembly because the assembly wouldn't even come with a new light bulb. :P

I've yet to change mine on the Liberty, but it's typically secured to the back of the headlight housing with a plastic collar that you unscrew or unlock and then pull out. Carefully use a small screw driver to release the latch between the wireharness and the bulb housing and pop off the burned out bulb. Then just slide the new one in until it clicks into place. Reinstall and secure with the collar.

Note: Try to avoid putting your fingers on the glass part of the replacement bulb. The oil residue left on the glass can heat up and shatter your brand new hallogen bulb. Thus resulting in having to do the whole process over again.

Double note: The reason the high beam will work and the low beam wont is because there are actually two seperate fillaments in the bulb. Since the low beams are on more - it always burns out first (unless there is a defect with that particular bulb)

Good luck / enjoy!

To further what sleeve said, (which was excellent btw) you have DRLs-daytime running lights, which activate the high beam at reduced power when you do not have the lights turned on. So yeah just your low beam filament is burned out in your headlight.

I dont have daytime running lights. Is this a limited edition thing, or a canadian requirement?

DRL is a canadian requirement.

The US has an optional requirement right now for DRL last I heard
