And if you happen to see one picture up on Rusty's site a while back, I believe he removed the rear support plate. That plate at full droop would get caught in the spring (been there and done that). Helps with the ball joint contact however.

See, I knew it looked weird.

How does the joint last without any protection from the offroad environment? Anyone know?

Instead of restating my thoughts on the using a uniball on the front suspension, here is a link:

http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... hp?t=12975

Short summary: The uniball is orientated on the secondary strength axis, as others indicated single shear and should be considered a consumable (replace every year, with period checks between oil changes). I would not use a uniball for a daily driver, maybe for a weekend car/truck. There are more immediate issues I would fix first before replacing the ball joints with a uniball.

The hardest part about the replacement is getting the OEM arm separated from the steering knuckle. The job is fairly straight forward, and there will be directions in the box.

The arms are fairly easy to replace. A small sledge works well...

Well, well, well. You know my position. I'll have to agree with detroit_doc, OzLtd, PitViper, and a number of others who have yet to chime in. I'm surprised this thread hasn't been locked but even more surprised that I was still able to login. I just felt compelled to come to detroit_doc's defense since no one had the gonads to come to mine when I was going through the ringer with the "machine."

Very easy. Remove the battery and batt tray on the drivers side to get to the a-arm bolts the rear bolt requires a mess of extensions and a wobbly for me as well but no issues. Remove the air box on the passenger side and do the same for the rear bolt. Since I was gonna ditch my stock arms I just used a pickle fork to pop the UBJ off, then to seperate the arm from the knuckle I used a floor jack under the lower arm to jack up the knuckle to get it at a decent angle to slide the joint outta of the knuckle.

Install really helps if you have another person to either hold the new arms in place and you place in the bolts, or vice versa.

Barely took an hour do both sides. BE SURE TO GET AN ALIGNMENT RIGHT AFTERWARDS. My MTRS were bout shot anyways so I waited a bit before I did mine but the whole outter edge of my tires are bout bald now. Just an excuse to get new tires sooner.

 No hard feelings here Burchie. We'll just have to agree to disagree. We spoke our minds, tempers flared and things raged out of control. I apologize if I offended anyone but I stand by my personal assessment. I guess the fact that my priviledges haven't been permanently revoked speak volumes. Nuff said, let's smoke the peace pipe and move on, I have.

Don't ask. It'll only stir things up. And for what it's worth, I really like what you've done to your vehicle.

Here are the struts when I pulled them off my truck. This was after less than 100 miles of paved road driving. It was actually probably less than 50 miles. Let's play a game called "count the suspension contact". Look at the springs and count the number of places that there was spring contact. I count at least 8 places on the spring on the left and 5 places on the spring on the right. Yes, a degreed mechanical engineer using CAD would have never have built something that was this blantantly wrong. The interference between the spring and the suspension would have been caught on the computer.

Just a quick note as to the UBJ issue with recent Frankenlifts. The bump has been fixed and these contact issues are no longer a problem. I have my new lower puck with corrected bumps to test on a KJ tommorrow and another on Monday.

Also, all Libertys are different slightly. Engineer away, when you have a better way, go for it. You are adding an aftermarket part to a Jeep. If the alignment cams are out of adjustment on the lower arms, then contact can happen like this. I could fix these problems, but wasn't given a chance. Your case was the worst I had seen to date, but there would have been a way to fix it.
