Hi all,

Went to Walmart recently looking to pickup some oil and a quart of ATF+4 to top off my power steering as it normally reads "max cold" when the vehicle is hot and been run for a while....then it of course read a hair below "min cold" when it has been sitting overnight.

Anyway, I noticed that walmart actually carries the mopar branded ATF+4 AT fluid, but they also have ATF+4 in their SuperTech brand. Anyone know who makes the fluids/oils that are branded with the SuperTech label?

The reason I ask is because the SuperTech ATF+4 was $2 cheaper per quart then the mopar fluid, and that was at walmart. Of course, I still lean toward the mopar fluid, but if I knew who made walmarts product and that it was at least as good as the mopar product, I certain would use it as opposed to paying $2 more per quart.

Anyone know?

I think someone posted the the SuperTech line was actually made by Valvoline. Do a forum search on SuperTech.

It would be either Valoline or Mobil. Mobil makes the MOPAR fluid, but does not put the additive in their Mobil brand synthetic for some reason.

I worked for years in a plant which produced product under their own name and also private labeled for large retail chains. The product had nothing to do with oil or vehicles, but I can tell you the private labeled stuff was at least as good as the house name. In fact the private label stuff was often substantially better. I don't know if this would be true for oil or not.

Probably for that specific reason is why Mobil doesn't have their own branded ATF+4 fluid.

Valvoline is the original manufacturer of ATF+4 for Chrysler, it was not until last year that chrysler allowed them to license it
to other manufacturers (Makes you wonder how Amsoil claimed ATF+4 spec since they did not have the correct additive formula ?).

So currently it could be one of a few manufactures, but Valvoline is still the supplier to Chrysler for ATF+4 last I heard.

the amsoil universal ATF with the ATF+4 spec was not approved by mopar at all. amsoil just desided that it met the spec. thats the reason i didn't use it in my SRT-4 if a warenty issue came up i didn't want to be skrewed.

My understanding is that ATF+4 is all the same - it is produced under license. Therefore the cheapest version of it should be the same as the most expensive. 'Cept that it's cheaper, naturally!

The power steering doesnt take power steering fluid?

No it takes ATF +4.

Why would the power steering take Automatic Transmission Fluid? Explain this to me please.

Lots of cars use ATF for the power steering pump. My father-in-law has a 1982 Mercedes 300D and that takes Dexron ATF. Also, if you look in the manual, it says use ATF+4 AT fluid to top up the power steering. There are other cars that use ATF for the PS as well.

I guess i've just always had vehicles that use power steering fluid. I wonder how the warranty issues would be handled if i used the bottle of generic brand powersteering fluid i have that states it's good for all mopar,gm,nissan,honda,ford,,etc?

I'll buy the right stuff...I guess i shouldnt assume anything these days..lol

Always read the manual before you add any fluids. Never assume anything

Exactly!, I tried the amsoil ATF+4 in my old liberty powersteering pump and found out it did not work at all, foamed like crazy and pump noise galore, did not meet spec I'm sure.
Maybe there's an "Amsoil Specialist" itching to respond pro-bono and tell different.
