Fumoto Oil Drain Valve installation... help?

So I got my drain valve in today along with the crd adapter. My question is this...

Theres a gasket on the valve intself, but there isn't one on the adapter... does there need to be one?

I figure their has to be since the adapter is the one thats actually going to be against the engine. What do I do?

Funny you should bring this up because I have the same question. The adapter and the valve don't seem to go togeather.

The gasket you got with the fumoto goes between the two pieces...then the gasket on the oil pan goes on before the fumoto

According to Greg, use the copper washer from the regular drain plug
between the adapter and pan.

Got it. The threads are really tight but with a bit of effort they go togeather.

I used the old copper washer and mine is leaking around it. Going to get a new one and try it next time I change the oil. Anyone used anything else?

Why did the Fumoto valve (F-108) I purchased from Lube Specialists fit directly into my oil pan?

I purchased and delivered both the valve and the CRD adapter (CRD108) to my dealer mech (no bad mouthing, some of us are just busy

) and he reported that the adpater fit the pan but the valve did not fit the adapter. On a whim he tried the valve directly and it fit like a charm!

I have an email to the Fumoto camp as well, but I thought all you do-it-yourselfers might have a good answer.

I'll be returning my diff valve as he said those are easy to get to (actually, only the front is, the rear is a cover only) and you don't need a quick valve.

Have you crawled under and looked to see if it is installed and installed properly? These oil pans do not have a standard thread and FUMOTO doesn't make a special one for the engine when I talked to them and had no plans to do so in future.

I did consider doing just that but since I won't necessarily know what "right" looked like, how would I know "wrong" if I saw it? So I skipped it based on the dealership's track record and the mechanic's experience; he volunteered that it was a good thread fit and that it was leak free.

They did have it for an overnight and drove it about the lot, and I have had it out and about all weekend. I should take a look for leaks at the very least, I suppose.

Believe me the FUMOTO will not fit without the adaptor, different threads. If it is in there without the adaptor, the valve would be smaller then the hole. Besides the proper way to install the adaptor and valve is you screw them togather then install them into the pan. You need to get your but down under the vehicle and look and see if it is even been installed. As I said the adaptor makes for a smaller drain hole and the FUMOTO that came with the set will not even be large enough to screw into the hole w/o the adaptor. If a larger FUNOTO was used, it has to be forced & cross threaded in the pan.

Yes the threads are a bit tight between the adapter and valve but if a drop of oil is used they go together just fine. Also I would not be driving the thing with Fumoto only the threads are not even close and the valve is under size a bit. But if the mechanic can't seem to get the vlave and adpater together then it does not surprise me that he put the valve in by itself. Also Fumoto will ponly tell you they don't have a valve to fit the CRD they have were not involved with the adapter.

Just bring this back to the top, because I just got and email from someone thinking the adapter was not needed. Yes the valve will screw into the pan but the threads are different and the hole OD is a bit bigger. You are taking a big chance of the valve coming loose if you not use the adapter.

Greg we hads a saying in the USN, nothing is sailor proof and that seems to hit the nail on the head here about this install. I bet it is in there with some thread sealer and drops out 5k to 10k miles later when least expected and at a most inconvient time.

Yes, I agree to all. And I still keep my eye on the whole thing. Combination of not having enough time and some sort of (possibly misplaced) trust, and maybe just dumb luck...

But I know I will have to buy an oil pan and have the adapter put in with a new Fumoto. Then the new pan installed (since my threads are screwed). That $450 is on my money list but not my time list, soon though.

I wouldn't replace the whole pan. I'd tap it out to the next larger standard size and get a Fumoto valve to fit that.

You can buy a pan for less than $200 from a place on the east coast, but I can't remember the name. Old Navy gave it to me so he should know.

The Fumoto sounds like a headache. I asked the guy at Advance Auto Parts if they had a Fumoto. He checked his computer and said Fram makes a drain valve for the CRD but of course he did not have it in stock. Are there other (less buggy) options out there? Is the Fram crap?

The Fram drain valve is a piece of crap and I will bet they do not have one to fit as they only make about 1/2 dozen models. I had one of those crappy things on a Toyota and ended up tossing it in the trash where it belonged.
