It is by build date. Forgot the start date, but end date was Jan '06 for the FSN-37 (or whatever the # was) I saw the the thing printed out and it was 37 pages long. I just did a short skim read/look and I didn't see an option of replace or not. Tech is to do a lot of checks to make sure no other problems were caused by premature wear on TC, the inspection could lead to a complete rebuilt/new tranny if inspection goes poorly.

This does not leave me with any warm fuzzy feeling here. There is a vast probability of human error in something 37 pages long. Does this mean I need to remove my non-factory installed MOPAR T-Case Skid as well? Or maybe my front mount hitch if they need to get into the transmission cooler???

Can ANYONE get the actual text of this beast posted up?

Hence, anything produced after 12/16/05, or anyone who had TSB reflashes 21-009-06 or 21-008-06, had to get the F31 recall as the software was not compliant with code reading equipment. Shortly before F31 came out, 18-023-06 was released and I jumped on it - thus avoiding F31.

Build date of 3/15/06. Jeep.com calls for F31 (yet, Autozone reader seemed to read codes fine) & F37, tho no flashes done yet. So, to my knowledge, I have neither F31 or 18-023-06 but yet F37 isn't said to apply. Maybe, they're assuming F31 will be done? Or, maybe it's just date-based. Anyone with a build date prior to Jan 06' to which F37 doesn't apply or after to which it does?

After reading this thread I checked jeep.com and I'm on the list to have this done. I've already got an appt with my dealer ( who by the way is exelent Salmon River Motors Salmon, Idaho) to finish up the brake moan issue on the 19th. I called and taked with the service manager and he was not aware of this F37. He pulled it up and took a look at the "recall" and said he'd get the parts in for the 19th. I'm lucky to have a great service dept. it would be a hugh downer if the dept was a bad one. This having been said I'm getting sick of having to go to the dealer all the time.I think I may look at the 07 toyota tundra.

And for that matter - I don't have a warm fuzzy about some of the service techs I've seen, regardless of honesty, disassembling this electronic gizmo of a tranny and getting it back together properly. I'd much rather they simply take it out whole, send it back to DC to be refurbished, and plug in a new complete unit, rather than having to cross my fingers and hope some 90 day wonder in the back room was paying attention when they were teaching him how to work on trannys. That's one other reason I'm not inclined to rush in for this recall.

You raise a good point. I didn't think about the possibility they might open the tranny up. I remember watching a tech rebuild a dodge tranny at our favorite jeep dealership a while back. I was in for my 4th visit on egr/glow plugs/whatever it was that time, waiting for them to finish work. He had the tranny from the dodge apart on a cart. The cart surface was littered with dirty grease, metal shavings, dirt and other junk. He had clutches from the tranny laying on that surface in that dirty mess. Yessir, clean room rebuilds...

I think I might just wait this one out a little bit. Lets see how this plays out.

I wish I could, but circumstances at home give me a small window of opportunity here to get this done. Am I the first one to go in (tomorrow morning)?

I'm nervous about this. When I'm nervous I stress eat. Only thing in my office is a little packet of salt from a fast food place. I just ate a freakin' salt packet!!!

LMAO!! thats funny alljeep

You might be the first for this one. Do you have time to stick around the shop and watch what they do? If not at least have a good talk with the tech and find out as much as possible. Oh and try not to eat too much salt, that cant be good for you.

Mine just went in for the recall. My service manager joked about the customer service bulletin. He said its a recall. Anyways, I was having tons are TC issues and had no choice but to take it in. My SM said he didnt think they were reducing overall torque, but just at the shift points. He was going to do some digging and see what he could find. He's a straight shooter so I know he will tell me what the scoop is.

As soon as it get it back I will post the outcome and any noticable difference.

Everyone, we have to help Alljeep. I'll start by sending him a box of Equal packets. Maybe someone else could send some Spenda, some sugar, etc. And hidden in a few of them will be some valium! :D

Thanks for making me laugh this afternoon - man, I needed that!

Well my Dealer just gave me a call. They said that they had just got off the phone with chrysler. He said it took over an hour for chrysler to explain what exactly they were supposed to my car. He said that it will get the TC for sure but they may also have to replace the pump in the transmission. He was very informative as to what they were gonna do and why or the reasons that DC gave them. I was very impressed with the level of service.

The CRD is going under the knife or more to the point socket wrench on Friday. I will post again after they have compleated the work.

We go in Monday for our recall, should be interesting. Hanging out with the guys all day, man sometimes I miss working. Then I come back to reality and have to decide if today I am taking the 10 mm auto to the range, fixing something at home, taking a road trip, or taking a power nap. Most of the time it is the latter of the bunch.

Given that you're not having trouble, I'm curious why you're taking it in. My gueses are:

1. Curiosity.
2. Hoping for even better MPG.
3. Wanting to be proactive.
4. Boredom.

Howdy y'all,

I spoke to some contacts and got the low down on this F37 Service Campaign.

The TC is indeed new and should have a new P/N. If the one you're getting installed is the same P/N as the new one, something isn't right. The TC has been redesigned with beefier internal components. From an NVH standpoint it's worse, but for service/reliability it's better.

TCM flash is to change the shift points and pressures to keep the clutch packs and TC from slipping as much. In town shifting patterns will be somewhat different, WOT characteristics should be unnoticeably different.

ECM software should not be changing as a result of this. WOT power and torque characteristics are remaining unchanged from OEM (160hp/295ft-lb). If a difference is felt, it'll be due to the TCM software.

That's all I have for now, thought you'd like to know.

Thank you MrMopar! Now, my concern, my CRD is not included in the recall, do I already have the new TC and programming? If so it is junk as well, If not when do I get it

I don't think any of the KJ's that left Toledo had any of these updates as they've been developed recently.

My guess is that these are parts that are being used in the MY07 CRD KJs that are still going to Europe.

My thoughts are that they're starting with the oldest-released vehicles first and moving their way forward through the release dates. I'm betting it'll come around at some point, they just figure "Hey, a car this new shouldn't have so many miles on it, statistically speaking, and so it statistically shouldn't have as evident a problem yet."

All comes down to bean counting...

I'll have to post the part number they install for my TC as I'm suspicious of the whole situation. When I called the morning of December 1 (first day of recall) they already had parts in stock. Seems kind of odd since I did not buy it there and they only sold 2 or 3 CRDs total AND the parts are apparently CRD recall specific. Sounds like they are just pulling a TC off the shelf, but who knows. I hate taking a leap of faith and just sending my CRD into a black hole, but that is what has to happen because I have no time to hang around and chat or talk with the techs - I've got to get to work ASAP in the morning.

I called Chrysler today to test the water and asked for a buy back based on what I have isn't what I paid for, as you may guess the answer was no but then they guy went on the offensive and said if you get the letter and don't get it done they can refuse warranty. he made it clear this "recall" is driven by the NTSB. So I said oh like the ball joints but it didn't take 3 years.

I think its become a love hate relationship with the CRD, even if they bouight back or it I sold it there is nothing outthere worthy of replacing it.
