YJ?????

Is 6000.00 to much for an 87 YJ with a 4 in lift, 35"s, Rino paint job, hard top, 6 six inch Hella lights, diamond plate rock gaurds, and a Ramsey 9000lb winch? 86000mi on new motor

Sounds high to me. Good condition or wheeled hard and showing it?
Modded older Jeeps have pretty bad resale value in most places as there are a lot of them out there.

jeep looks sound. Supposely it belonged to a guy who worked for the railroad, and was his daily driver/hunting wagon but the soon to be Mrs. wanted something more shiny to ride around in, so he traded it for a new truck.[/b]

I agree that it seems a little high. What brand of lift, how much tread left on the tires, how old's the winch?

I guess I'll throw in my two cents. While it does sound high I've been looking at how much it will cost to build up and repair my YJ that I bought and it's going to be well over $9,000 including the vehicle aquisition costs (vehicle only cost $1500). So I say it's all personal preference and the state of the vehicle. Do you want to buy cheap and build up over time or do you want built up and bought for less?

87 yj's hold thier value really well because it's the last year that AMC owned them. However, a lot of people are leary about buying modded jeeps. You don't know how they've been used, or the quality of the lift or install. Also large tires and stock gears = abused clutch. Mods don't add to the value, they detract from it. If it has a nice body, figure thats what your buying for 6 grand, a nice body, cause the drivetrain can go eithr way, good or bad at this point. They also have a weak manual tranny in that year, some say t-case as well, but have heard others say the t-case is allright. It's not the 231 in 87, forget what it is. Personally, I would feel better about paying 6,000 for a nice unmodded 87, than modded. With out seeing it, makes it hard to call. It may be modded so well it looks factory and all is good. What I've stated is a rule of thumb, not carved in stone.

thanks guys the tires are new, the winch doesnt look as if it has ever been used.. Supposly the guy built it to get to his favorite hunting spot, the only thing i have noticed that even says its been offroad is the tire bumped the fender on the front and left a slight dent, the suspension has all been painted and left with the axles over the springs, thought that was kind of odd, figured it would have at least had a spring over, and I dont know the brand of the lift.
