That's what I wanted to check on---the guy at Boulderbars suggested replacing the struts. With only 8k on the clock, I'd like to wear out the OEM crap first. You guys have any reservations about the struts with "just" the Daystar kit? I don't off-road much other than driving a state forest road to go hunting a few times a year.

I've got over 10,000 miles on my lift now and it rides great both on and off road with the stock suspension components. This is the kit I have:

1-1/2" Front, 2" Rear spacer kit - KJ09123 - $170, I requested the color red as the black pucks are standard and wanted something a little different. (This was before All-J carried this kit).

I got just the pucks too (well, I technically replaced one strut after destroying one in the install process, but I replaced it with an old one from a Renny with a Frankenlift...thanks again Mike!). Anyway, I'm hearing some creaking and groaning from the front-end now. I'm considering moving up to the 2.5" lift and getting the whole CRD 2.5" Frankenlift, but I haven't decided yet. You can get by for quite a few miles on the stock struts. It's not the perfect world, but it's very usable and you're in no danger.

I'd like the Frankenlift but may have to wait. I'll probably go with the $249 special for now. I have a call in to my local motorhead for a recommendation on a mechanic who can handle this if I decide it's over my head.

If you go for the $249 kit I believe that includes the front top strut plate. You will then need to do something about the rear as the CRD will sit 1" higher in the front than the rear with the $249 kit. I think I read you can leave the rear factory lower spring pad in place and put the spacer on top of it - but it's not a flat/tight fit. Maybe someone who has done this will chime in.

Yes, please chime. The kit I'm looking at is the 9116 Daystar.

In my search for a shop to install the lift, I found these guys locally http://www.applehill4x4.com/ and they sell DayStar. The price they quoted me on the kit is a few bucks more than All Jeep, but I'd feel like a heel going in there for an install with somebody else's kit. These guys have done a few KJ's so I think I'll start a long-term relationship with them.

Just got my 2.5" Daystar spacer kit in the mail. I told Heather that I have a CRD, and she said go ahead and use both the spacer and the plate, it should work fine.

Is there anyone else running both the spacer and the plate on stock struts without any problems? I would like the extra lift of running the spacer and the plate, but I am concerned about issues with the CV joints and the struts. I don't mind so much replacing my struts further down the road, but I don't want to go through axles like they are candy.

I think I found a thread that will help the folks in here. It's a member that has already installed the Daystar 2.5" kit and verified that it sits about an inch low in the back, but put his lower rear spring isolator pads back into the rear and it corrected the problem:

Coming soon to a forum near you! 8)
I drop it off tonight. The shop is going to have it aligned too, so I may be w/o Little Mack for another day or two. I can't wait. Merry Christmas to me... :D

I just installed this kit in my 2006 CRD. I like the handling and ride and think it is a bit better than stock. The rear is up two inches higher than the front which I don't care for much. The stock front springs are 410lb as apposed to the 400 lb springs from OME that come in the kit and I added an ARB bumper but no winch. Two things that were screwed up is the rear shocks had 3/4" holes in the eyes and they sent 1/2" bushings so I got to cut the bushings out of the old shocks. And they played dumb when I asked about a longer brake line on the driver side rear. Claimed they had never had that problem so told them they had never installed their kit on an 06. I'm happy with the kit but they need to work on customer relations and put the right stuff in their kits. Took me a good 8 or 9 hours but I'm old and slow.

Is the front is sagging because of the additional weight of the ARB bumper? I understand that thing is pretty darn heavy.

What are you referring to as "this kit" because we are talking about the 2.5" Daystar lift kit which does not provide front springs, just poly spacers front and back plus an over the top metal strut spacer. Thus, retaining the factory CRD springs...

Isn't he referring to the Rockfather (Godfather) II kit, as indicated in the subject of his post? (http://www.rocky-road.com/kjsus.html)

jbees is referring to something different than CRuD Bucket is. And until jbees jumped in and stated he installed the same kit(immediately after CRuD Bucket's post about his upcoming Daystar install), the only discussion in here that is recent has been on the 2.5" Daystar.

My point here is that jbees did NOT install the 2.5" Daystar and as such, CRuD Bucket should not be concerned about his rear end sitting 2.0" higher after his Daystar is installed.

Yowza! Good thing. Little Mack is done but I don't pick him up until tomorrow morning and then I have some running to do so it may be another day or so until I post (results and pics). The shop says I'm gonna want bigger tires though. Yar! More mods! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
BTW, how high can I go in terms of tire size without sacrificing a butt load of economy? I know the higher tires will run at lower RPMs but how much more rolling resistance will there be? I'm sure there's always a catch (or for every action there is a reaction as I dig deeper into my wallet).

Quess I didn't relize we were only talking about the Daystar-thought we were talking about lifts available for the CRD.

The ARB bumper is a bunch heavier than the plastic thing I took off. I think in the 80 to 100 lb range. I think I might end up putting the stock front springs back in because they're a 410lb spring as opposed to the 400lbers from OME that come in the kit. Seth at ARB told me this would probably be the case and I would have to add more spacers to achieve a full 2.5" lift.

Here are my before lift and after lift pics. The before pics were taken in the summer after I rescued him. This is the Daystar 9115BK kit. Retail is more $ than the 9116 but they gave it to me for the 9116 price. There was a wait on the 9116 so I hope/assume that this kit is fine for the CRD. Apple Hill 4 X 4 did the install and they were great. It obviously NEEDS bigger tires, which will give me another 1.5" or so (the P225's measure 28.5" so I assume an LT30 would measure 30"). My Pop's Xterra has P265's which we measured at 29.5". I didn't measure before and after but I'm sure I got 2.5". Wife, who drives a Nissan Mallfinder, said something about her skirt and she struggled to hop up.
