If I chose right now, I'd get either a Wrangler Unlimited (4 door) Sahara or a Toyota 4runner Sport V6.

I'm waiting however to see more diesel offerings. A Tacoma (or Tundra) 4door diesel 4X4 would be enticing.
D/C has both a V6 & V8 diesel coming to the Dakota & Ram line later after first of the year, should be March or April time frame.

After all the problems with My Liberty I would not want another diesel from D/C. :? I ran to the dealer as soon as the recall was out still waiting for the TC to come in called today and now I'm told it's on back order. :x

Go to another dealer, these TC are the same as came in the vehicle and are on the shelves and at the warehouses. They will turn the standard TC part number in with the recall prefix and all will be right in the universe.

Maybe there is hope for a better engine, BUT I bet that the cost will be very very high

Quote:
From a Chrysler Group press release.

For the fifth year in a row -- and every year since its 2003 re-introduction -- Chrysler Group's famous 5.7-liter HEMI(R) engine has earned a place on Ward's 10 Best Engines list. Joining the HEMI in winning the award is DaimlerChrysler's 3.0-liter V-6 Turbo Diesel, available in the 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Quote:
"We are pleased that Chrysler Group has delivered two engines among Ward's 10 prestigious winners," said Bob Lee, Vice President -- Powertrain, Chrysler Group. "The HEMI continues to impress as an engine that offers the combination of power and fuel efficiency our customers demand, while the 3.0-liter V-6 CRD Turbo Diesel boasts an unsurpassed blend of acceleration, torque and fuel economy."

First introduced in the 2003 Dodge Ram, the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 achieves power, fuel economy and emissions goals with a design that is elegant and cost effective. The engine is available in the Chrysler 300, Chrysler Aspen, Jeep Commander, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Charger, Dodge Durango, Dodge Magnum and Dodge Ram.

I think our VM diesel is first class and suited very well for our Liberties. Yes there are some EGR related problems but mostly on the 05's but how many 06's are having egr problems? I'm totally happy with my VM diesel :D

That 3.0 may bring ~30% additional power but at the cost of the *estimated* 19/25 in mileage. Plus, it'll be limited to CJ-4 oil & probably isn't as rebuildable (tho that probably doesn't matter for most).

if I didn't have my CRD I would be an unhappy camper. if I didn't have it, I would have to drive my 300WHP turbocharged/intercooled Ford Taurus SHO, instead of looking at it, parked in the garage. now that is one fun car to drive, it's like "weeeeee!!!!"

as for a new DD vehicle....I would have got a used/new 05 Libby renegade and bought common stock in a refinery.

It is a tough call. The CRD Libby definitely is one of a kind right now! I've always wanted a Ram 1500 4x4 w/a diesel and a manual tranny. If the big 3 DO bring out diesel engines in their 1/2 ton trucks, I will be doing some serious looking. On the other hand, a JK 4 dr w/diesel and a manual tranny would be SAWEEEEEEEEEETTTTTTTTTTTT! Live axles, manual tranny 4 doors, diesel engine... WHAT COULD BE BETTER??? Maybe a Rubicon edition diesel...hmmm

If it wasn't for the CRD I might have bought a Ram 2500 CTD, JK 4dr Unlimited, or a Renegade Liberty w/6spd.

Overall though, I'm happy with the CRD Libby. I am a good sized guy though so I could go with more room, better off-road suspension and a manual tranny-hence my wish for a JK diesel...

It looks like it would almost fit inside the Libby next to it.

Diesel-converted LR Disco until someone smartens up and puts a nice light/med-duty diesel in another North American SUV...

Cheers,

Funny thing is the Mini Cooper has a Chrysler Engine

The new larger Minis ( that is an oxymoron ) will get a new design BMW engine.

Sure it isn't a 4.2L not 420 CI? I knew they had a V8 and at one time a few years back it was the worlds fastest production 4dr sedan with top end at about 175 mph, best I remember it was about 5.5L engine.
