So I picked up the Mopar tranny skid for the '02 Rene. From what I've read, it's basically for the @ '05-'06 and needs to be retrofitted for the '02-'04.

My question is, what type of mounting hardware do I need to pick up for the install? How many "nutzerts"(rivets), bolts, etc. will I need?

I haven't crawled under there yet to take a look and was wondering what I need to pick up before setting aside time to throw it on.

Thanks a ton!

Found a bunch of hits when doing a search on eBay, but not sure which size is needed. I know some people were looking for the tool to install the nutzerts(rivets), and there are a couple listed here also.

You need four rivets or zertnuts. The Mopar Part # for them is 06506644AA. They run about 1.00 ea. The bolts needed are metric size M10x35mm with a 1.50 pitch (coarse thread). You will also want to pick up M10 lock washers. You can pick them up at Lowe's. Make sure to get grade 8 hardware.

Check out this thread for the zerts. http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=9417

All the hardware to install came with mine, the earlier rigs just need to install a bolt in the back in a different place from the 2005-06. Not a big thing since the front and rear passenger side bolts are holding everything up while you fix the problem.

Mine came with an extra round zert that was on the install tool. I have an '06 so I used the hex zerts but I would guess if you have the same kit you could drill a hole and use it.

I didnt use any nutzerts when putting the mopar skid on my 04. I just drilled holes all the way through the cross members and used grade 8 bolts with a washer and lock nut. much stronger than just the nutzert.. The front of the skid is sandwiched between the cross member and the engine skid..

Cool, thanks everyone.

Jeepjeepster, I'm almost wondering if I should go that route too, all the way through the crossmember. I just have to set aside the time to crawl under there. I've been on-call for work the past week and it seems like the week has lasted about 20 days!!

Thanks again everyone. If anyone has any pics of the zerts, zert tool, post install, yada yada yada, that would be awesome! Only if you have the pics sitting on the puter though, don't make it a point to crawl under the KJ just for me. Thanks!!

Hold the wrench in the pic in place and tighten the bottom bolt to 25ftlbs. I would be sure to not go over 25 ft lbs b/c i stripped mine alittle.

Holy cow, Jeepjeepster, you should be in customer service!! I didn't expect the pics THAT quick! Thanks again, I really appreciate it! Gives me a better idea of what I'm in for. Did you say you got the install tool with the skid? I got the skid with no installation parts, and I'm wondering if I can get the tool at the same time I get the zerts from the stealership.

Thanks again, man!

Yeah, there's a link just a few posts up in this thread that has some good info and pics of the nutzerts before installation. Also found that in "the industry" that they're also called rivet nuts. Been reading up on these little things a bit now!
