Good, single-dose container for PowerService ?

I've only been able to find Power Service in huge jugs around here and I'd rather not have to try to dispense from that into the CRD or have it shloshing around in the back. I'm looking for a long-necked bottle that can hold enough P/S to treat a full tank, can be re-used and that isn't going to melt.

I tried the bottle for Gunk-out diesel injector cleaner , (after having used up the injector cleaner) but after a couple of uses the bottle started getting soft. It seems the injector cleaner is not as similar to cetane booster as I thought. Anyone have any other ideas for something I can reuse?

I use an aluminum fuel bottle for camping stoves from a sporting goods store. Mine is a 22oz bottle so I get about 3 or 4 uses before I have to refill from the big jug of Power Service in the Garage.

I keep the aluminum bottle in a gallon zip lock bag with spare paper towels for spills - all in the rear small mesh pocket way in back of the Liberty. See these bottles:

I use a bottle that "Lucas" fuel treatment came in. It has a long neck and hold the proper amount for treating around 15-17 gal of diesel. I have a small funnel that fills it up easily. I just let it ride around in the rear cup holder on the passenger door.

Another option is to order the new Amsoil Cetane of Diesel additives. They have also desinged a new bottle with a long neck...

I purchase the large industrial size bottle of PS and then I have the individual used small plastic 10oz water bottles. I fill up about 6 of these and then at every fill up pour in the entire contects of a 10oz bottle and just reuse the bottles again later.
I also keep them in a box with a lid and tied with a bungee cord so that they do not roll around.

Thanks, guys. I'll see if I can find something like the camping bottles at Bass Pro.

I was concerned about trying just any plastic -- especially plastic for water -- since the Gunk-out bottle couldn't handle the P/S. Might just get some bottles and experiment for a couple weeks in the garage. See what works and what melts.

Your favorite 20 oz. beverage bottle works great.....I've used a Coke & Dr. Pepper bottles with good luck.

I second Darby's answer. I bought the small (5.25 oz., I think) bottle of the Lucas fuel system treatment shortly after I bought the CRD, just to get the bottle. I put the Lucas stuff in my wife's Honda. The bottle is the perfect size for an average fill-up, and it has held up well over the past six months. I use a Coleman stove funnel to refill it. Mine lives in the mesh basket in the cargo area, right next to my "diesel gloves".

I don't use any additives and thus save the trouble of having to find a container. I have found no use for the additives in the 21 months/40k miles I have had my CRD. It has started in all conditions (-12F being the coldest and no plug in heater use either) and given me consistant good mpg. It does not smoke much and there is plenty of power. Other than possible gelling below -20F why would I waste my money, or time?

Don't use additives if you do not want to. I have been using Power service for about 300k miles and have not had issues. There for I think I will keep using it, especially for the $15 a year it costs.

Because the ULSD fuel lubricity in most areas meets the bare minimum requirements for our injection systems/injectors. I rather be pennywise now then pound foolish down the road.

No, it's not just you. I keep gloves back there too for the occasional messy pump. Though, most of the places I've been to have been surprisingly clean. Also, ULSD doesn't have much smell.

You really don't want an answer or wouldn't accept an answer, so why ask? The thread was about "help" finding a suitable container for someone who "did" want to use an additive.

heh, a lot of good solutoins, but what I did was buy a gallon of power service, then I got a 32oz bottle of it. At walmart you can get those orange funnels made by hopkins and they have about a 4 inch spout that screws onto the bottom. You can unscrew this spout, and then it screws right onto the top of the 32oz powerservice bottle. It also has a flex tube that screws onto the top of it...so you could probably use it on the gallon bottle as well.

I don't add at every fill. Usually every other fill I put in 16oz since I never run mine down to empty. I usually run it down to inbetween 1/2 and 1/4 before refilling.

Just so when you gel up, we could all jump in our CRD's with those useless additives, drive hundreds or even thousands of miles to roll by your disabled CRD on the side of the road and laugh.

Just a note...the PS antigel works with BioDiesel Blends up to B20. It does not work for blends greater than B20.

I wonder if anyone read a recent article concerning the gel point of ULSD? Basically, #1 & #2 ULSD have almost identical gel points, thus blending to lower gel point is about worthless. You will need to rely on additives more now than last winter.

As far as a single-serving container, I keep the used plastic containers from the spice rack.

Do what I have been doing for years with PS, I use the 12 oz Coke or Sprite bottles to store the stuff. I used the Coke for grey bottle summer, Sprite for white winter blend. I have never had one leak, and the bottles have held up fine even for as long as about 8 months.
