You should soooo take it in just to see the response. That would be entertaining!

Our first Liberty was a Columbia Edition bought on 02-22-04.

My wife totaled it at 80 MPH on a 500 mile trip to visit her ailing mother on Labor Day 2005 in WV. She claimed she lost control and ran off the right side of the road into a mountain face. She was banged up but not hurt badly and blamed me and the new tires I had installed earlier that week. I blamed her driving too fast and not the tires.

We purchased a 2005 CRD and I hang out on that forum. This week we get the recal on the Columbia. I explain the history and thought my CRD had the new ball joints. Found out the have the bad ones also. Now it is headed for an inspection at the dealer Monday but the wait list goes to 2007.

She finally told me yesterday about 200 miles into the trip the steering wheel began stuttering and before the impact it was wandering to the right like a bad alignment.

Should I trust the new ball joints or go buy the MOOGs and have the dealer install them?

Just got mine, dlr told me they were the EXACT same ones they installed like 6 months ago when they told me mine were shot and did them under warranty, not recall.

That may be dealerspeak for, "We don't have the new ones, so we are putting in the old type, but now we have informed you, so it's not our fault if they fail."

Nope. The dlr told me the newest ones they installed were the new part #. As a matter of fact I had to wait 2 weeks for them to come in for my recall. They said the ones they did 6 months ago were the exact same ones as these. So, either they got the new stock early OR DC is BSing us and the new ones are the same as the old ones with just a new part #. OR the dlr can't physically tell one from the other which I suspect may be the case.

No, I'm pretty sure what happened is that before they issued the recall they stopped making the old balljoints and started using the new ones (both in repairs and in the builds). So people who had repairs done in that interim got the nice new ones already (before the people getting recall work).

Ah, I get it. He already had the new ones in, and they swapped them for a second set of new ones for the recall. As long as he has the new ones in now, that's what matters. Sorry folks, I get a little twitchy about dealers some times...

Funny, I got my recall for my wifes 04 but still nothing for my 03?!!?!!!

The 04 doesn't need them either because I already have Moogs in it. Guess I will try to get Jeep to reimburse me for those.

Just had the ball joints replaced on my 2004 Renegade. Does this effect the alignment?

When did they start using the new ball joints? Would I have the old ball joints w/ my '06?

You can go down to the Tech. Section Forum under Recalls Warrantys and TSBs here you can find some good info to find out if your KJ might need new ones.

I just read on another forum that the new ones are failing also. The ones listed in this post were replaced in December and are bad after 1000 miles
http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=368890
That makes MOOGS better looking all the time

EDIT Put in correct link

New BJ's going bad? That would be terrible.

But that link is to a thread about oil filters. Did I miss something?
