EHM freeze up?

Just wondering if anyone knows how long you can run in below freezing temps before the EHM will freeze up? I have mine ran straight forward tied to the A/C hose, then down the passenger side of the radiator pushed between the sway bar and cross frame. Thinking about hooking mine back to stock if there is a chance of the EHM freezing over and blowing out seals. Thanks.

You're running the hose across the engine, so while the engine is operating wouldn't it be warm enough to keep everything from freezing?
Once its shut off is the hose so small there would be enough water vapor in there that can condense, and freeze? (I thought not.)

I also thought of the same problem with freeze up. I have routed the EHM forward and down by the front passenger side of the radiator. This was the easiest and only has one 90 deg. bend in it. I have used heater hose that was pre formed with a 90 deg. bend in it and long enough to reach the engine. Looks factory stock. Mine exits under the front bumper area, and I have cut it off at a 45 deg angle to the rear. No problems so far. I think that when the engine is running the vapor would be warm enough to keep any moisture from freezing, besides its 3/4 inch, that would take a lot of ice.

No mine dosen't run on top of the engine, I put a 90* right out of the crank case vent so it comes out right next to the coolant bottle. I know what you mean about being 3/4" hose not freezing solid, I cut mine on a 45 too so that increases the opening a little. But I have seen ice hanging on mine already when it was below freezing this year. Have to watch it close I guess, I do park it in a "above freezing" garage all night so it will thaw any ice that forms on it, just not sure how long of a trip it will take to freeze it shut, yes the engine vapor is warm, but it has a lot of moisture in it that will freeze fast.

OldNavy and the VW gang have plenty of experience with this. There didn't seem to be too many cloggs. Me, I just remember to shake it out at the end of the week.

Meanwhile, a solution for blow-out was to put a few slit-cuts in the hose up near the warm areas as emergency relief valves. That way if the end clogged the gas would squeek out the cracks.

I got confused at first when I read this, but then I figured it out:
EHM=Elephant Hose Mod.

Mine had a slight coating of ice in it this morning, outside temp was 10, checked it at work after driving 65 miles. It does concern me that it may clog, not sure what to do, may go back stock during winter. Any thoughts?

I have the EHM and I run it along the muffler and right out the back text to the muffler and no problems with it freezing.

I asked the dealer mechanic about running a EHM because of the EGR issues. He mentioned that he had talked to DC about this because he was in favor of the idea. DC told the mechanic that its was designed to blow-by oil for lubrication. I'm saying to my self "LUBRICATING what" :?:

Well mine is going back on with a new 45' cut on the bottom of the hose, I had taken it off because of the 37 Recall TC which was just accomplished.

I didn't take mine off for the F37, but the techs know me and they also know it is actually better to have the EHM as far as EGR and general enginme health goes. Any good oil tech specialest or experienced long time diesel tech can tell you that uncleaned used diesl oil is not good for the combustion chambers. But in most folks case that do not have a understanding dealer better safe then sorry.

I have mine running over the engine and down the left side and venting out down by the forward drive shaft. Not had any issue yet with freezing up, but I also use a grill cover when temps are low and that keeps a lot of cold air from blowing thru.

Regarding the F37 and the EHM. I recently had the F37 done and did not take off the EHM. Tech could care less. I didn't even tell them about the EHM and they didn't bring it up or remove it. Kinda got the feeling that since DC not making an issue about it, they ignore it.

EHM freeze up?
