We just completed our trail run today got a late start about noon.
we ran north from Niland on the cochella road all the way to saltcreek siphon 26 where the bradshaw begins.
ran all the way up to the old train bridge that crosses the wash, shot some rounds cooked some tri-tip.
then headed on eastward up the bradshaw. turned south & got to pole line road but it got dark on us too quick.
so we decided to baja ralley it to pala Verde. the rene was awesome in part time drive!
drug the skid plate several time speed was 25-45 mph. she's running all stock.
it way to easy to overdrive the headlight/fog light combo.
the dust from the lead truck doing 45-55 mph even a 1/4 mile ahead
left a dust fogging the road where the roof lights just did not do much good.
drop back a 1/2 mile then the overhead lighting improved greatly.
Got a few pics of the adventure to post got get the camera downloaded.
We finished the trail around 7:00pm this evening & drove back hwy 78 to calipatria located close by the salton Sea.
for desert washes & desert trail riding the rene performed like a winner.
we did see one white 4x4 surburban broke down on the trail behind the chocolate mtns.
no one around, looked like a smugglers truck. No worry we always ride in pairs & pack for bison. hehehe
that ralley over the last half of the bradshaw at night just was great pushing thru the dark one curve after another from dip to dip.
if ya got a 4x4 liberty
do the bradshaw but start around 9 am or earlier to avoid sundown catchin ya before trails end.
oh yea and always ride at least in pairs.
Cell phone coverage was about 75-80% avail the whole time....

If you're going to do the Bradshaw Trail area a lot, there is a really good book on it called Gold Road To La Paz. The book includes a fold out map of the trail. The book and the map break the trail down by tenths of a mile so you can utilize your trip meter. It marks all the roads and trails that turn off of the trail and tells you where they lead and how far they go. It also contains the history of the trail.

Some of the trails (passes) running north, over the Chuckawalla Mountains are real tame (4x2) and some are pretty tough but usually passable by a stock KJ (with some work and the mirrors folded in) if the rains haven't hit them too badly.

The Bradshaw Trail can also be VERY FUN right after a good rain if you like to play in the mud!

OK even wothout pictures here is one more reason to get out of the midwest and move west! I will have to read the book Gold Road to LaPaz, thought that I had covered about all the books there were about that area. Sounds like a great time.Thanks for sharing smithstoo

Desert USA is the best price I have found online and about $10 bucks less than I paid for it at the museum.

Another good book about the area is Mining Camps and Ghost Towns; A History of Mining in Arizona and California Along the Lower Colorado
by Frank Love. Frank is a local professor and historian that writes a weekly column (local history) for the Yuma Sun. He has written a number of books about the area but this one is IMHO by far his best. Most of the others are more like pamphlets than books.
