Wonder if FedEx and UPS(heck even the regular mailman) is aware of the niffty invention of 4-wheeldrive,I know it's only been around for 70 years or so but god they could upgrade  !I totally understand a couple day delay due to everything being shut down for 2 days but I could have saved alot of $ in S&H,and I'm really bored this weekend and replacing those bushings was supposed to keep me busy this long weekend. But what can you do?It would have been worth it if Ft Carson got more than 4" of snow.

Hey Nails! Welcome back but it doesn't take long to just pop on here and say hi and all. Get the little one to learn how to type already!

By the way, CONGRATS! Boy or girl? When did he/she come into this world? Name?

Also, you need to change your location. You aren't in Iceland anymore....well, if you look outside, you might think you are still there.

I know, Iceland is green and Greenland is ice.

I want that snow!!!

You are right I have no excuse.

We had a little boy Jacob Paul we call him JP. He was born Sep 24th. We have had family visiting since except for one week. Things should slow down a little bit now so I will be on here much more now. I still need to try and get my skids on and order a set of Rocklizards Skink Sliders. I just got my reenlistment bonus so I will be ordering soon. I am sitting at work here waitng to see if I am going to get stuck here again this week.

My wife would kill me calling my kid JP... too much like JEEP!!! Her only competition....

BTW Lots of snow here this round too!!! Subaru was a beast again!!!15" in the street, stranded cars and trucks on the side, and in 4 low, I went right up! Nice and light vs the heavy Jeep, but with the lockers it does fine, but the Subaru stops better

We didn't get off easy this time, at least 6" with drifts up to 2.5 feet. The funny thing is when the drift goes right down the middle of the road. The KJ does fairly well when encountering the drifts but for everything else (don't tell anyone I said this  ) I really prefer my wife's VW Jetta. The ESP, manual trans, etc. make it so much better on slick roads.

I was having a blast this morning plowing through some of the 3' to 4' drifts here on Ft Carson, but the fun ended real fast when a MP caught me doing a 4-wheel drift in a empty parking lot but let me off with a warning and told me to go home he didn't want to see me driving any more today  .

Man! I am so bummed to be missing all of this snow. I see Aurora got 8.5" for this storm for a total of 39.5" overall for the two storms.

I sure hope my condo is okay.

I did tell everyone, at work, that this winter would be bad.

It has been unseasonably warm here in central Ohio. I have rarely used my coat and took the liner out of it (Columbia winter coat) when I have used it.

I got screwed with the 2nd so-called blizzard. I was supposed to be flying to Florida to visit my folks for New Years but my flight got canceled...while we were waiting in line to check our freakin bags. It didn't snow more than a dusting all freaking Friday...the roads to and at DIA were fine...just wet in most places. When we got home all bummed from the airport there was a message on my answeing machine from the airling telling me that my flight was cancelled due to snow in Denver...did they not talk to people or look at the local weather before canceling flights? I think not. The second so-called 'blizzard' was nothing (in Denver area anyway) and the airlines freaked. The b@$t@rds!

Kristin and I did spend some of yesterday taking a nice hike in the snow on Lookout mountain at least....and my jeep looks nice and...well...Jeepy...definitely saved the day more than a few times in the last couple of weeks.

Bummer!

Looks like I get to drive through the remnants of the snow storm. Not sure if I-70 (between Denver and Kansas City) will be open (and safe) by Tuesday night. I might take I-80. The storm should fizzle to rain once it hits St Louis. I checked the forecasts.

Dave, take a look at the CDOT Website and click on 'Alerts and Restrictions' for the latest road updates. Looks like all of I-70 east of Denver metro area is still closed to Kansa at the time of me writing this. I suspect the same will hold for I-70 in Western Kansas as well...might be true for I-80 too...The recent storm went pretty far north into Wyoming and Nebraska as well.

Kansas Road Conditions Much of I-70 closed.

Nebraska Road Conditionslots of I-80 closed in Nebraska.

I made it back this afternoon. Roads were in great shape. I did see a lot of cars off the highway and markings of where cars had gone off. I also passed by a car that had just gone off into the median and three young guys had gotten out. The snow saved their lives. Stopped them just before getting to the other side of the highway. Too deep and too far on the other side of the median with no crossing over for miles or else I would have stopped and pulled them out. I called on my CB for help and went on my way. Later (about 30 minutes), a Cadillac flew by me with an old man driving and the three guys in it.

Saw a derailed train engine due to a monster snow pile on the tracks. Looked like it was the snow plowing engine.

A bunch of Pheasant were next to the highway and about 100 miles later, 2 coyotes lounging around on the snow with a bunch of geese about 200 yds away.

A highway truck was on the side of the road and a worker was dragging a frozen stiff deer over railroad tracks. It was so stiff (legs were straight) it looked like one of those yard ornament deer. It seemed like an odd scene as he dragged it.

Encountered the slowest gas pump on I-70. A TA (Travel Center) around the Exit 76 area of Colorado. It took about 15 minutes to pump 12 gallons! Thank god I wasn't running on empty or had a monster size tank (like the Ford F250 that pulled up at the pump next to me.

Weirdest encounter was the Oasis Effect. You know how in the movies, they show the sand and the heat waves moving and you think you see things off in the distance. Well, it is the same with the snow and sun. I looked out on the horizon and it would be blurry but also could see a wall of white and dark spots. It looked like the walls of a monster white warehouse in the far distance but it was just the reflexion of the snow. The dark spots were the reflexions of the trees and building.

FYI - I watched my tire's PSI closely the whole trip back and had them at 30 PSI cold in Ohio. They were 32 PSI warm in St Louis and 32 PSI in Kansas City. When I reached that super slow pump station in Colorado, I was at 35 PSI. I had also done the same when I traveled to Ohio and had to air up in Colby, Kansas since they dropped too much (down to 30 PSI warm/hot from 34 PSI when I left Denver metro)).
