Had a great time!

I was looking at the maps when I got home:

I think we should try to follow the trail that is east of the cave next time. I think this is the trail we saw the group of jeeps on while we were at lunch. We saw their trailers down near Hawk Creek when we crossed that small stream on our way out. If we followed the trail southeast from the cave, it connects with 1053. If all is going well, we can then drop south passed Whitt Cemetery and run past Hawk Creek. This will then connect to the gravel road out to 80.

I agree, except that we should go up the chute, then go around and come back down the way Dodger and Jeepjeepster went up that one time. I like the chute with those new tires

The next run should be in February. Anyone get President's day off? I don't know when it is, but we might be able to get a few of the Chicagoland / Great Lakes guys down...

Got my Photos uploaded also HERE or you can watch a slide show of what I think are the best.

President's Day is Monday, February 19. That entire weekend is great for me as I have the 19th and the 20th off but realize that most people dont.

We left london, ky at about 6:15pm, that included a having dinner also. Turned out to be a bad battery.

Here is the abbreviated story for anyone that is interested.

Out on the trail my instrument cluster starting acting strange. Gauges dying, light flickering, etc. Stopped at the gas station on the way out and the Jeep would not start up. Jumping the vehicle started the Jeep fine, but it would not run unless you kept it revved up or left the jumper cables on. So I thought it was the alternator. I figured some water and mud must have gotten in the alternator and damaged it. We towed it over to Autozone and they tested the alternator and it was good, then tried putting a charge on the battery and it wouldn't hold the charge. Bad cell in the battery. So I bought a new battery and it drove fine all the way home.

The battery was 4 years old and put through alot of abuse, so it served its time. At least it didn't die in the middle of the trail or it would have been an even longer day. Really appreciate moose and science_guy helping me out and hanging around until I got my Jeep running.

Kind of weird. My experience has always been that if you have a bad battery you can at least drive the vehicle once it has been jumped. The guy that helped us we quite friendly and knowledgeable and said with some of the new highly computer controlled cars if the battery goes dead the computer can't operate and the engine will shut down. Either way, a new battery was all I need and I was on my way.

I tried some Scratch X on it today but I can not really see much difference at all. There is light rain today so I can not really get it to dry properly. I will try again later on a warmer day.

A nice trail reminder.

The Sami's were not waiting too long and we let them pass once we got to the top. We caught up to them shortly after when they stopped for a bladder break.

Hmm, dont know why I didnt notice the antenna on the side of the hood! :)

Where did it happen at? Got any pics of the area?

Eddo, from the experience I have, sometimes when the battery goes dead, the computer needs to relearn. Ive had this happen on a cherokee and the battery was fine. We had to stay on the gas the ENTIRE time and it didnt run till we drove it down the road some.

The guy could of been right since your battery was dead. Ive had my battery die but it ran fine afterwards so maybe the kj is different than our cherokee. :?

Oh my battery was down and out for sure. Only 10 something volts and wouldn't hold a changed. Bad cell. However, I just assumed if it did do dead all I would need would be a jump. I guess I'm used to the old vehicles where you could even pull the battery and the car would run just fine.

Moab with trees. OK, maybe not exactly Moab, but good enough for me.

KJ-BOL made it up, but had an issue with (we found out later) a loose bolt on one of his a-arms from poor workmanship where he had work done last. At the time, we thought it was a bad LBJ, and he still had to get back to Gatlinburg that night and Chicago on the 1st. So, he bailed early and got it fixed. Nice seeing him, too bad he couldn't wheel this time.

I'm glad everyone had a good time and didn't sustain any serious damage on the trail.

I wouldn't venture out there without rock rails. Maybe later in the year.

Happy new year,
T.J.

I got 3.25 from my Frankenlift and 1.5 from my 32's, and although I only tapped the skid plates twice, I made good use of the skink sliders. I wouldn't want to run it without them, but Jeepjeepster did in November. He just had to take some bypasses :(

Come down with someone from Chicagoland! or drive to Indy and go with Science_Guy! You can see the trail, be the trail photographer, enjoy meeting the group, learn to spot people, have some bbq, and get away for a while. I'd be glad to have anyone from Detroit, Toledo, Chicago or Columbus areas do the same with me (just that we'd be getting on the road at 0530 that morning and getting back to by place by 1000 or 1100)

My wife thought so also... I am thinking of stopping by a body shop that is just up the street to see how much it would cost to do some spot touch-ups. I have a simlar spot on the other side that was from the anvil/workbench in my garage. The trail badge on the driver's side is much easier to look at then the one from the workbench on the passenger's side...

I wish you good luck getting it fixed.

Dont feel soo bad....since my last run w/ the group I was out playing on some trails out behind our house on thanksgiving showing my cousins how good the liberty performs. Forgot there was a stump hidden on the passenger side of the liberty before a turn in the trail and I got hung up on it. I brought it back up to the house and happened to notice a nice flex in the rocker panel which has since caused the paint to crack off and there is a large bruise and long streak of rusting below the passenger side door. AGH...I could of kicked myself in the head!!! :? :x
