Next question...how can I find out if 4 or 5 will be needed?

One thing to keep in mind if buying used is these have batteries and are an expendable item needing replacement every 7-10 yrs.

I got the 5 sensors in the mail today. I'm not thrilled.

1: of the 5, 4 are missing the valve core. I'm not sure if a standard valve stemm core will fit inside. anyone know?

2: 1 of the 5 is broken about 1/8" past the collar. There is still thread there, but not enough to grab a cap. I can use this for the spare tire, which my EVIC doesn;t seem to report, but it's annoying. Not sure how moisture in the sensor would react with no cap.

3: None of them had the metal valve cap. I didn't really expect them to and this isn't really a complaint about that. I have to get a training magnet anyway, so I'll just order the caps when I do.

I sent a message to LKQ about the broken one and the cores. They are usually pretty good, but since it's such a rare item, I can't really expect replacments, just maybe a price cut or something.

You don't, you throw them away and buy new sensors.

The valve cores are not suppose to be removed because they are a nickle plated brass core that is used to
prevent corrosion. They are weaker than the common steel core and are more likely to snap off in the sensor.
Using a common style core will promote corrosion in the sensors stem.

Well, that sucks.. Still, find out if they work. In order to train them, they must in the tire with air pressure in the tire. I tried to train mine outside the tires and that didnt work. :?

Has anyone ever figured out what the receiving end of the sensors look like? Or where they are located?

It was from a Ford service manual but I am sure the DC sensors are the same part.
I work in the service industry so study this kind of stuff all the time but admit I just learned what I posted.

I agree with what Matt400 said. There is a mfg mark on these from "Schrader Bridgeport". I found there web page. It said the exact same thing. Only use nickle plated valve core because a standard core will cause corrosion between the 2 different types of metal. At $1 + change each, I'll wait for the dealer ones to get here.

I stopped at the dealer on the way home after calling to see if he had a magnet trainer. He did. $12 later I was training my sensors. I'm not 100% sure if it worked or not, but now all 5 are reading 0 PSI instead of "-". That's a good sign I think.

As soon as I get the cores and caps from the dealer I'll have my buddy install them for me.

Good find, here is the link if others search this thread:
http://www.schrader-bridgeport.com/broc ... on_id=4816

Down at the bottom under the word "Caution"
Quote:
Always use new grommets, nuts, valve caps and electroless, nickel-plated valve cores (Service Pack) when performing any tire service.

Never use a brass valve core in an aluminum TPMS sensor stem. Contact between dissimilar metals may cause galvanic corrosion, which can lead to loss of air pressure.

Also I read in another tech forum that the sensors won't work if installed upside down.

Just and FYI...

I'm still waiting for the dealer to get the cores and caps.

I was an idiot and trained the sensors anyway. Now I get a low pressure warning for all 4 tires every 2 minutes instead of a Tire Pressure system error every 10.

At least I know the batteries work. all 4 are reading 0 PSI sitting in the cab :D

Just a thought, but if anyone really cared to research it, I wonder if the Cadillac or Vette sensors that are so prevalent on eBay would work. They have the same package/housing shape as the ones we need for the 04 or older EVICs. Might be something as simple as the PSI range or something.

Just a thought.....But has anyone but me realized that these monitoring systems were'nt really needed until they came out with these newer style rims that bead leak cause of corroding aluminum. Hmmmm :?:

Interesting idea. One way might be to use this link to match up the OEM number found on ebay and then see if the Schrader part number listed for it fits any Chrysler products.

I finally got these in. took long enough. the prices are nuts. some shops near me actually wanted $30/tire to intall them.

Kost Tire (common in NEPA) did them for $10 each including the balancing.

this is what I get on the EVIC. I got a refund for the 5th sensor, so the spare has no reading. I used the broken one to train, but it's reading 0. It still beeps at startup telling me that the spare has low pressure, but then goes away and no more warning!!!

Anyone know how accurate these are? Tires are all reading 30ish, but my tire guage reads 35.

P.S. You can see my new switches for the lights. They sent me a "Fan" switch instead of "Fog Lights" switch, hence the hole in the middle.
