I'm just paying it forward. Eddo got me on the lift kit, and rock rails, and MTs, and....

So now I'm poor too.

Thanks for the write up. I referenced it yesterday while installing my new Cobra 150GTL and Firestik FS3.

My $0.02:
I ran the coax from the antenna mount, down alongside the tail light and cut a small hole on the bottom side of the rubber wire housing feeding the tailgate. I was then able to remove the driver side trim to reach in and pull the cable through. Running it along the kick panel was surprisingly easy.

I spent most of my time figuring out where to mount the big radio. I didn't want to put it up on the roof like i'd seen some do, and i wanted to be able to see the unit while driving which ruled out under the seat etc. I tried every bracket position available and finally ended up drilling a couple of new holes in the bracket to mount it where it is. I had to get it perfect so it doesn't hit your leg while driving, clears the tilt lever, clears the door handle, and is visible. I also ran the mike cable into the trim and up the pillar where there is about 2 feet (uncoiled) of cable available and it provides a nice clean install.

SWR was great...1.2 or less on 19. Reception is horrible! I think the 3 foot antenna is the problem. I'm stopping by a local CB shop today to try a longer or different antenna.

Moose, where did you end up mounting the CB unit it's self?
Hurley's won't work for me because I need to use my left leg to shift, and I'd be in trouble with the CB there because i'd be bashing my knee everytime I shift...

above the rear view mirror -

If you pull down on the overhead light it comes out easy. feel against the roof to the front - you will notice a support. You can have someone hold the bracket in place and use a hat pin to push through and make sure your holes are going to line up one the support bar. then mark with pencil. drill pilot holes (you may need to drill new holes in the CB mounting bracket first if you have problems getting the hat pin to hit well). use a self taping sheet metal screw - about 3/4" or 1" - i can't remember which; you are not torquing it down, just tightening the bracket to the roof fabric. run the power down the left side of the center and tie into cigarette lighter line behind faceplate. get some 1/2" flexible conduit and put the coax and the power into it, and down the dash. w3csx may have a picture or two of his. i'll try to one of mine soon.

Moose, looks pretty good, but from a wiring standpoint, did you consider running the wires in the headliner and then inside the A-pillar? It would probably look a little neater than what appears to be straight down... (not to criticize)

I will have to contact you in more detail when I decide to do my install. I really like the location. My only beef with CB's is that they look so darn 70's.

For this winter (i.e., until good weather is back), I'm not doing anything that is too much work outside. When April comes around, I may rerout as described. but this is the best I could do for now (criticism not taken - no worries). Well, the '70's weren't that bad as I recall.... (except for Disco, bell bottoms, and 8 track)

I don't know why he did it. I guess for a better signal. I was very happy with the single one. The placement on the vehicle determines which direction gets a bigger signal. Twin antenna work together to increase the range (and alter the signal pattern)
