I just placed an order for a rusty's coil lift minus his rear shocks,He said by using the rancho rsx17004 shocks in the rear I would void the warranty for the rear coils because they won't work,I told him that many others were using that setup and pleased with it,Has anyone had any problems using the ranchos in the rear?

No problems, I did add my own hockey puck bumpstops in the rear. The Ranchos are better than the shocks than those that came with Rusty's kit, mostly because the bushing were the correct size. Rusty's shocks only lasted a few months on my Liberty, I just couldn't keep them from squeeking. The washers just didn't cut it. Here's some pics of the crushed bushings.

Haha, he is just saying that b/c your not buying his products. I cannot think of any way that a shock could "void" the warranty on a spring? The bumpstop keeps it from compressing to much, and the spring doesnt care how much the axle droops? :)

Wouldn't this be similar to running with the new emu long shock on the rear?

I used the Rancho's in the rear from day 1. No issues.

And as for the warranty...I've seen lots of things break but not a spring ~ and if it did I'd probably just buy another.

rusty needs to hop on this board and read the posts. there are many comments on here about those shocks being shyte

those rear shocks make awful noises.
i had rustys rear shocks on for about 12k miles, when i replaced them with the ranchos ( because they became so loud, knocking around and such ) the passenger side was totally blown and the drivers side was leaking oil something fierce.

the rancho replacement was the second best thing i have done on the kj.

I got the same answer from Mr.Rusty,
the RSX 17004 appearently compressing the coils too much...

...well as it has been already said: the original (Munroes) are not up to standard
...get the Rancho RSX 17004 and enjoy your KJ.

Ive read lots on this board about people being dissatisfied with Rustys shocks. Did you people who had problems with them get free replacements from him under warranty? Ive been thinking about going with rustys full coil lift or whatever its called once I get around to lifting my Jeep, are there problems with the front struts he includes? It seems to me that if the rear shocks are crap there would be problems elsewhere.

I can not speak as some one with the rustys kit but I do know that the rear shocks have problems
I can tel you that if you want a great lift that can be built on then the cheeper way would be to go with the Old Man Emu stuff if he still has it
you will spend $280 +shipping at rustys to get 4 coils and the rear shocks all OME then go over to All J's and get some rancho struts for $170 +shipping
or try to get hime to give you credit for the shocks and get just thm from All J's

The rustys kit ordered "a la carte" is high and if you go the route of ordering the 2" coils from him and the Rancho shocks and struts you will spend $560 +ship
wich is more than his lift but cheeper in the long run if the shocks are bad

hope this helps out

I believe the struts in the Rusty's coil lift are OME's, so they are very good.

I agree.

I know most claim that Rusty's coil lift will give you little more lift then OME's, but besides that I don't see any reason to order it with the shocks. It just seems like too many people have issues with them. I am not knocking Rusty's at all. I ordered OME HD's and their strut plates from them and they shipped very fast and were great to talk to when ordering. And the price for the OME HD's was great. I just can't see why the shocks have not been addressed. I considered ordering the Rusty's coil lift, but to be honest I really didn't want to have to discuss his shocks with them. Which I'm sure would of been the case had I ordered the kit w/o the shocks. Plus I felt safer going with the OME HD's so I decided to piece some things together.

Rusty's is/was selling the OME HD's for $100 per pair. They were $239.50 shipped when I got them several months ago. If you look around you can find Rancho Rsx struts and shocks shipped for well under $300. Pair them together with a "Free" clevis lift and be done with it for under $540. Rusty's lift would be $544.75 shipped to my door with his bad shocks.

What I'll be installing hopefully by 02/02/07: (As seen in my sig)

OME HD coils front and rear
Front - Rancho struts and Rusty's strut plates
Rear - The new OME N132L shocks and Daystar bumpstops

My total bill is about $600 plus whatever shipping will be from AllJ's for the shocks and bump stops. I could of saved about $100 by eliminating the strut plates (while doing a clevis lift) and going with Rancho shocks, but this is the set-up I wanted. Plus I'm getting the bump stops.

I guess my point is from what I've read here over the past 1 - 2 years, the OME/Rancho set up is well liked. Plus, with the new OME rear shocks it may be even better. If you look around a little to do some shopping, you may be able to put something together that does not have the problems you get with Rusty's lift, while spending just about the same amount of $$$. It just takes a little more time.

I may completely disagree with everything I just wrote if after I install my lift I don't like it, but I highly doubt that will be the case. Too many people on this board speak highly about the OME and Rancho parts. The same can't be said for Rusty's shocks.

OK first off The rusty's kit is an awesome lift minus the rear shocks. I have had mine for over a year and the shocks ent about six months into it. I never had any of the horrid shock not from them that people claim to have on here since I did it right an placed washers in with the shock mounts from the get go. Well after I blew one of the shocks I replaced them with ranchos. Now EVERYONE on this board says that the ranchos have the correct bushing in them to fit perfect. So when I threw them in I didn't install the washers like I did with the rustys shocks. The ranchos ride is phenominal!!!!! Now grantedd the first time I took th eKJ off raod after the rancho shock install I about went nuts from all the knocking coming from my rear end!!! I was like WTF! Am I the only one experiencing this with the ranchos! So back went in the washers.

If you want the rustys coil kit tell him to minus the rear shocks and order a set from Summitracing for cheap and free shipping. The front struts in the rustys kit are OME and are pretty decent.

the only bad thing about rustys lift is the rear shocks. every other part of the lift is fantastic and holds up like a tank.

how can the springs possibly compress more with longer shocks? it's the bumpstops that govern spring compression, not shocks...
how can they claim this? hell, my coils compress LESS with rancho shocks and my own homemade hockey puck bumpstops...

as far as droop... rusty's springs don't even begin to feel loose at full droop with the rancho's on... no chance of dropping a spring.

I was thinking the same thing. The shock isnt what limits the compression. If rustys has his shocks set up to bottom out before the bumpstop hits, no reason his springs are failing and leaking fluid.

HD OME rear springs with Rustys front Springs( w/2 conduit nuts)=perfectly level Jeep. 8) Im thinking about adding some 1/2 rear spacers that I already have. The jeep is level but I think I like the rear alittle higher. Ill wait and make sure the front springs are settled fully since Ive had the OME's for awhile. :)

When I talked with Rusty he said he would sell the kit with rancho's in the 9000 series that would work .

Anyway I got the kit today but won't be able to install till spring and can't find a garage in CT. that would do the install,If anyone in Connecticut knows someone or has a decent garage let me know..Thanks Adam...

There are quite a few people in Jersey/NY that may be willing to throw a lift party come early spring. Ask around (or grovel) in the NE or MA sections... 8)
