Ok for my battle with DCX about the EGR. First let me say I just want them to Fix my KJ so I can keep it untill the my 7 year old can drive it.

my question is With EGR valve failures was the exhaust stock or modified and if it was modified how?

KJMedic,

I did a quick search and came up with this link for modifying vehicles under warranty: http://www.dummies.com/WileyCDA/Dummies ... RTSLEISURE

My observation is that a modified exhaust will not cause engine and/or supporting component failure. The only failure you may have is a strip bolt or two, but that is easily fixed.

I need numbers. I am in the Lemon Law process, and DCX is saying the reason for the EGR failures is the Glass Pack. I know this is Bull Sh1* but I think I will need numbers. Any help would be great.........Brian

Brian,

What kind of numbers are you looking for? The EGR system on the Liberty diesel is before the exhaust system and before the turbo, so any changes to the exhaust system should have no effect on the exhaust system.

If anything, the pressure drop across the flow-through glass-pak will be lower than that of the standard baffled muffler due to its design, and the only effect from the installation of the glass-pak should be less backpressure in the exhaust system which won't hurt anything in the EGR system.

Let me know how I can help and I'll do what I can.

Are you looking for how many people had EGR failures with the stock exhaust?

My EGR failed with the stock exhaust at ~8,000 miles (my notebook is in the Jeep) - added magnaflow later.

Doesnt the Magnusson Moss act deal with after market modifcations?
Its illegal for them to deny warranty or blame failures on the vehicle because of aftermarket parts you have installed. After all if it does affect backpressure/vacum and decreases it, our EGR isnt vacum operated anyways.

Heck all my failures were before I put the glass pack on.

The dealer was the one who suggested the muffler and install that I did after the factory one got smacked a few times. I like it, tucks up a lot better.

EGR @ 4,805 miles with stock system.

Set same codes again with stock exhaust , changed to glass pack, still same codes. Now with ULSD, no codes. For me, the fuel has fixed my problem.

Can scan my service ticket if you need it for your case.

I have had two EGR's go bad with stock exhaust. I only have 14500 mile on the clock. First one went out around 7500 miles the second went out at 13500 miles. I think I still have the dealer write ups on them.

I got 20000 miles right now and had a glass pack since 1500 miles I believe. I never had any EGR issues.

4 EGR valve replacements between 3,000 and approx. 16,500 miles...none since then (currently at about 26,000). Exhaust/muffler completely stock.

lol..
I bet DC has blamed some egr failures on incorrect tire pressure. Like to see there excuse for that.

Everyone knows high tire pressure lowers rolling resistance which means the diesel engine doesn't have as much load to work against. Less load means the engine isn't working hard enough which means the engine isn't producing enough heat. So, the cool running engine causes incomplete combustion, thus soot made wet from unburned fuel sticks to the EGR and makes it stop working. So it's all your fault, because you have too much air in your tires. And you probably didn't even fill the tires with MOPAR air. That's more than enough to deny your warranty claims.
