My wife bought an 04 CRD and now it has about 23K miles on it. It lost oil pressure recently. The shop says the oil pickup tube from the oil pump fell off. Yes, it fell off! It has been in the shop for 3 weeks now and the shop says they need 2 more weeks. Luckily they gave us a loaner car. I'll be trading this puppy in soon. darn, I was excited that this little Jeep would be a good vehicle for her. Also not happy with the reduction in power due to the recall. Well Jeep, sorry, I'll come back in 5 years to see if you've got your crud together. As for now, we'll be buying Toyota.

The above vehicle was not an 04 as I had previously stated-it's an 05. My mistake.

And by the way Mr. Walters, it was through my advice that my wife buy the Jeep because I have been a Jeep lover for many, many years.

Here's a list of the Jeep's I currently own:

(3) 1942 Willys
1946 CJ2A
1950 M38
1955 CJ3B
1959 CJ6
1963 CJ5
1967 Commando
1968 Wagoneer
1970 J10 Ranch King
1971 Postal
1986 CJ7 Collector's Edition (8K original miles)

All are in excellent working condition except for two of the Willys which I recently bought for parts.

And don't worry, I won't rush back on my account-I was simply posting the info for the benefit of others on this site.

wolffman, when you say the vehicle is "at the shop" do you mean at the dealer? At 23k, your jeep should still be under warranty. Also, I would be more concerned about why the pickup tube fell off then the fact that it actually fell off. I haven't heard of anyone else with that problem so it could be possible it wasn't attached correctly at the factory. If that is the case, should VM be to blame since they are the ones who assemble the motor?

Oh yeah...........did you ever notice that Toyota Dealerships have no Parts Department & Service Departments ? That's because precious Toyotas never break ! Image Image And Toyota never issues recalls / TSB's.........I guess they're all perfect. Image

Man you should look and see how many they issue, might supprise you. They just issued a huge recall on Tundra's trying to keep the wheels from falling off.

The Jeep is at a Dealer in Houston for warranty service. Will know more this week as to why the pickup fell off. The dealer is contacting Jeep regarding what action they should take as far as repairs. I'm worried about metal being thrown about the motor because my wife said it made a loud noise when it happened. If they put a new motor in it, we'll keep it-if not we'll trade it.

Wolffman -

Sorry to hear about your issues, hope you get it resolved soon. I would definitely push for a new motor - escalate if you have to. There is no telling if the oil pump pickup has been loose for some time & sucking some air in with the oil (although unlikely, still possible.) What dealership is your Jeep at?

Lord only knows how long it was loose. It could be possible that you have been running on low oil pressure until it actually fell off. I would push for a new motor as well. One good thing in your favor is that with your 2005 you have the 7/70 warranty. This just plain sucks and I hope you have a positive outcome. Please let us know what happens.

Well we got the Jeep back from the Dealer yesterday after 31 days. So here's the final verdict on what they replaced on the motor.

Camshaft
Turbocharger
Intercooler
Balancing shaft assembly
EGR Valve
Misc O-rings for the Pickup Tube
Cylinder head Cover

The mechanics notes state no visible wear to crankshaft surfaces or cylinders. But he did state that the camshaft had scoring and the lobes looked "funny". I'll guarantee this motor is screwed. The wife has been instructed to drive it with her foot to the floor.

Sorry to hear that they didn't replace the motor! I feel your pain; however, if the crank, rods, & bearings are really OK, the motor should STILL last a good long time. The top of the motor was damaged due to lack of oil flow; it will lose flow first when you lose oil pressure.

The thing that bothers me is the replacement of the balance shafts, which are down towards the bottom of the motor. However, depending on how the oil passages are arranged, they could be fed back from the top of the motor.

At any rate - good luck with it, hope things work better for you!

What was their reasoning for replacing the intercooler?

The mechanic's notes say that the intercooler was changed because it was full of oil. Not sure how that happened...
