New guy here. We purchased an 06 Liberty Sport in December. Future plan is to setup for towing behind our motorhome, but I also want to be able to tow our ATV trailer with brakes.

I picked up the two wiring harnesses since I don't have the overhead console. So far so good. The 7-pin harness that installs in the back of the Liberty and then goes outside was pretty easy. I've read one online write up about the next stage and its making me second guess doing it myself. The part in question is #82207620 - which runs from the passenger rear corner all the way up to the battery. For the most part its just running wires, the dash part removal looks to be a PITA but do able.

However I have a couple questions and I am hopeful somebody has done this task or understands Mopar visual instructions better than I do. The instructions online I found here http://site.justforjeeps.com/guide/82207620.pdf - the issue is specially with step 10 as shown below. It would appear I am to remove these 4 wires... correct? Then I assume I should wrap them with electrical tape and leave them alone - any thoughts?

It appears to me that you are supposed to push those wires into the appropriate openings in that Plug. If they didn't have to produce these for all 500 diffrent languages in the world there may be some words to go along with pictures, but then again, what about all those mechanics that can't read?

Thats right,you must push them into the plug as shown,they are color coated but the colors are all similar,just make sure you get it correct the first time because they don't come out once they snap in..

The correct harness is two parts,Really not too bad just when you go through the firewall do a search here to find the correct way and not the way I went.

Last but not least is the brake controller which requires 2 more wires from the battery.

You should also note that there's a fuse, number 10, labled "TRAILER" in the power distribution panel by the battery. To that there is a red wire running to the connector on the firewall. I did not tear far enough into my 06 to find it inside but it would be much easier and a cleaner install to use the wire that is already there. The factory wiring diagram shows it going to the harness your putting on then into the trailer plug. Send a private email and I'll try to provide more details

I completed the install on Saturday. Both wiring harnesses installed, previous week I had installed the hitch. Just need to finish installing the brake controller and I'll be good to go.

Okay guys, you’ve got me really confused. I have a 2007, 3.7L Limited without the tow package. I want to install the electric brake controller and tow package for an ultra light Travel Trailer. My Dodge Cummins which came with the tow package took about 5 min to locate the harness under the dash, plug the brake controller in, and mount it on the dash. But I have no clue where to begin on the Liberty? Does the Liberty have a place to plug in the brake controller?

I don't have the overhead console on my 03 Sport, but I have a trailer brake controller plug-in just under the dash to the right of the steering wheel. It was part of the tow pkg.

That's not a plug in for the brake controller. It's the diagnostic port. Jeep does not put a convenient plug in like they do for most pickup models. The brake controller install for a Libby requires splicing. See the link in the above post.

Sounds like you are in the same boat I was in. You need to install both wiring harnesses, then your brake controller. I'll warn you its a lengthy process, you get to pop off the interior panels in the back right, passenger and driver kick panels, glove box, radio fascia, and more. I opted to do the work myself and save a couple hundred bucks. I probably spent about 6 hours on it, but its done and I know more about my Jeep now.

The directions I found on this thread were a huge help and the advice from a member here helped me too.
