I was at the dealership getting the powersterring line replaced on 05 crd. I talked to my salesman and he said today was the first day to order. He also said it would still be 2 months before we will see them at the dealer.

If our Liberty CRDs were being taken care of and running correctly, I would get a little excited. Under the circumstances, it is a let down. Once we get out trannies working properly (with our own means), I will be sticking with the Liberty. Still meets all my needs (when it becomes funtionally dependable)

38K plus ... I wonder what discounts will bring it down to? Still nowhere near what we all paid for our CRD's ....

edited to note still no manual tranny ... good luck with more torque in probably the same tranny ans software. (just a guess)

I actually hope it is the same tranny and software - then we won't be orphans all by ourselves and the aftermarket might see enough volume to step up.

Misery loves company ?

And in other news on that loverly Jeep web page link posted earlier:

"More than 60 percent of the Chrysler Group vehicles sold in Western Europe are diesel powered. Between 2003 and 2007, the Chrysler Group will triple the number of diesel offerings outside North America. Of the estimated 20 vehicles available, 12 or more will have the option for a diesel powertrain (up from four in 2003)."

Well, let's hear it for areas outside fricking North America. Whoopee flocking doo. Does DC ever hear anything that US customers tell them?[/b]

The answer is a big fat NO  If they did we would all get a letter telling us how they intend to stand behind our CRD's and resolve our issues instead of hanging us out to dry

I would really be happy if Chrysler stepped up to the plate and addressed their problem with the CRD. I feel like we are all waiting for some great answer but I wonder “when” or “if” it will ever happen. I had thought about the CRD, but my wife and I are holding off hoping that something positive will happen. The future for Chryslers and diesels in North America is coming. Cummins is now designing V6 diesels for the Dakota, Durango, and ½ ton pickups and other Chryslers applications.

I wouldn't say designing the engine, designing the Emissions systems, they are already using the Cummins small engines in small equipment that makes the world happen, like trenchers, backhoes, Skidsteers. basically any construction equipment has somewhat relaxed emissions standards, But the standards they apply to Vehicles eventually make it to the construction market so rest assured Cummins NEEDS these engines to comply.

Kniggit, you’re absolutely right. What made me think about it was reading one of the posts above stating that Chrysler is reaching for 50 state legal emissions. I then remembered reading recently where Cummins said they were developing a 50 state legal emissions line-up for Chrysler. Cummins does not make mistakes, but Chrysler/Jeep has proven they can.

I was thinking about "upgrading" to the new GC CRD but after what I've been through with my CRD I am never buying another 1st year vehicle from Chrysler ever again and maybe not another Chrysler ever again. This is from a person who has never ever owned anything other than MOPAR. DCX blew it with the CRD.

When I first heard about a possible Grand Cherokee CRD a little over a year ago I was pretty excited.

Here's what I think now:

$3k additional for a CRD - no thanks, it doesn't pass my cost benefit analysis.
A CRD only available (at least right now) in a Limited or Overland - offer it in a Laredo also.

I think I want to see the results of some real world testing here in the states with our ULSD and our DCX service departments before I pull the trigger on this bad boy.

Bottom line; I can wait, I have a 100k extended warranty on my Liberty CRD and to be honest it's running pretty good. 8)

I will definantly be test driving one, but that is as far as it will go unless the Liberty gets sucked up in a tornado or something along those lines.

DC missed a big group of potential buyers by not taking care of present CRD owners. I know some of us would have traded up to a GC CRD and or bought one as a second vehicle if the KJ CRD was handled correctly. The only real issue most of us have with the CRD is the tranny...and that "COULD" be done correctly. They are also missing out on "word of mouth" from "satisfied KJ CRD Owners. DC really does not get that they shot themselves in the foot by ignoring a true fix for the CRD. I purchased www.JeepDiesels.com the other day...hummm???...wonder why?

Has to be the 4x4 with the X group.

Edit. The page with the info on the CRD says it is avab. on all models except the SRT.

Actually, it just has to have the X PKG. It lets you select it in Two wheel also.

Hmm, I am at the jeep website and I don't see the option to order that. Only 3.7 and 4.7 on the Laredo. :?

EDIT...DOH...yup you have to select the X package....the default is the E pkg

Yesterday I read in USA Today about the MBZ SUV Diesel. When the editor was discussing likes and dislikes one of the dislikes was the transmission shudder at low RPM high torque. So there you go; the saga continues! Meanwhile in Europe you're an idiot if you purchase automatic; everything, for the most part, is manual.

Yes, and that is the 7-speed auto trans. See link below:
