Mine APPEARS to be running a bit smoother and is peppier. I will need to drive some more miles in different weather conditions first, because I all have driven in thus far is cold rain. I haven't driven enough to see if there is a difference in mileage either. I also cleaned my MAF (slightly coated with an oily dust) a couple weeks ago with CRC's MAF sensor cleaner. I can say that while that stuff works great on the MAF, it doesn't have the cleaning power necessary for the boost sensor. I ended up using carb cleaner for the boost sensor, which worked fabulous.

About 5000 mile ago my EGR and Boost sensor were replaced. I keep the old parts from the dealer. The Boost sensor was 100% clogged as seen in the earlier pics. I pulled out my Boost sensor out yesterday to clean and found a lite coating of soot. I have used ULSD and EHM for the last 5000 mile. I'm thinking very oil change to clean the Boost sensor.

I pulled mine out the other day. It was completely covered with a dry soot. I've had the elephant hose mod since day one, and I only had 8271 miles. I had the battery disconnected while I cleaned the sensor. Post cleaning the Jeep starts quicker and seems peppier. Don't know if it was due to cleaning the boost sensor or unplugging the battery.

After cleaning boost sensor w/o disconnecting the battery, the boost reading increased 3 to 4 lbs at maximum boost according to ScanGuage. I am assuming that this is not an actual increase in boost, just an increase in the reading that allows the CRD computer to more accurately meter the fuel. According to VICkie, fuel mileage improved 2 to 3 MPG. Won't know for sure until after a few tanks are calculated. Mileage has been slipping over the past year and now appears to be back up where it belongs.

Pulled mine today with 33k and had a small solid lump. Reconnected the battery and drove 28mph on the freeway.

Why did you drive 28 mph??? Would the CRD not go faster or was there that much traffic?

Hey there were many times my average speed on the freeway home from NAS NORVA was probably about 8 to 12 MPH, man I don't miss that crap.

I just pulled my sensor out today, and at 8,045 miles, it was jam pack with black soot. My CRD has no modifications. We run B20 every now and then. Most of the miles are non-ULSD, up until the last 3 months. I will be performing this PM/Cleaning every 5k miles to trend and monitor. I also just replaced my dag-nasty air filter with a Fram OEM replacement. As soon as my FUMOTO comes in, I will be filling her up with AMSOIL 5W40 EuroSpec full syn. See how that goes.
Honestly, after reading all the topics on this forum, I am begining to worry about my decision to purchase this vehicle. So far, so good. I love this Jeep though. I hope she proves to be a trusty, high-mileage ride. Born on 05/06. Bought 07/06. Only one recall on my VIN, and that's the code reader software incompatibility issue. I am kinda in denial about these probems I am hearing about, and I'm hoping mine goes problem-free for a very long time. We'll see. La-La Land is nice for now.

I want to say thanks to everybody who posts here. I am REALLY learning a lot. This is, by far, the best Automotive forum I have ever come across, and I frequent a lot of others. Thanks.

Ryan

This Forum rivals Freds TDIClubForum for info and helping hands. Only thing I haven't seen is the GTG's for doing work on the CRD's, but maybe that will come with time and increased members.

get-togethers. My motorcycle friends call them maintenance clinics. Basically, someone volunteers a garage, driveway, and grill and folks show up w/ food, beer, and work to do. Often helps to have a second pair of hands and a spare brain to figure stuff out.

Alas, being a CRD owner in California I'm solidly in the orphan fleet

Hey make friends with the VW TDI guys and attend their GTG's, three of us guys here went to Marty's annual VW GTG up in MI last spring. One guy had a EGT Gage installed thanks to Marty having a lift in his shop. TDI Forum GTG page

I'll be moving to Healdsburg, CA. this summer with our CRD. I just hope I never have to take it to a Dealer, talk about being a lab rat.

Well let me offer an early welcome to NorCal!

It's a bit of a haul from Healdsburg (some of my favorite wineries are in the Russian River Valley right near Healdsburg) but Boardwalk Jeep down in Redwood City (about 20 miles South of SanFran) has one trained tech and they've been doing work on my CRD since I bought it in October of 2005. The nice thing is the one tech they have is very humble when it comes to CRDs (he freely admits I'm the first one he's worked on) and lets me follow him back into the shop and talks over my options (been through one reflash, one EGR, and the early tranny filter recall). They've taken good care of me. The only problem is the service writers are totally clueless but once you get past them the tech is good (they also sell VW there so the Jeep guy can ask the TDI techs for advice too).

Also, I run B100 and have a Provent and during the EGR thing they didn't say a word.

I just got around to F37 and F23 last week - I called them to order the parts and I'll take it in when they arrive.

So there's at least one moderately competent dealer in the Bay Area :)

What size is the socket needed. I cant see it very well and it's 20 deg outside.

I changed the oil tried to remove it and started to get cold. Needless to say I called it quits before I broke something.

Most everyone on this thread reports the sensor was clogged with black soot. I just cleaned mine (05 w/ 22k miles) and it was clogged and dripping with black oil. Should I be looking for other problems? Thanks, Steve
