Here's a picture I've never seen before - Jeep is showing this at the Frankfurt, Germany Auto Show

That is actually a pretty neat looking car but I am not sure that it should have the Jeep logo on it. Maybe to compete with the Outbacks and such.

if Jeep is gonna build this, then it will have to perform.
the only way i'd buy one of those is if it had actual performance numbers near a Subaru WRX... plus skidplates and nice suspension setup for really thrashing on dirt/gravel roads... would make a definately fun drive

otherwise, no get up and go = no sale

This really cracks me up.... Chrysler seems to be re-visiting ideas in American Motors' past that were only marginally sucessful, ie a "car Jeep". Can anyone besides me really remember the original Jeep Eagles? They were popular at first, but faded pretty quickly. I really see the compass as a vehicle that is resurrecting that product line. I wonder if the Eagle suffered from a market that was not prepared or desiring that type of vehicle and that now (largely due to Subaru and others' success in that arena) would Joe Public be ready for another "car Jeep"? Hmmm....

Well, I guess we'll have to wait and see. My gut feeling is that the market is now primed for the Compass and that, if engineered like a real Jeep, but with some decent sport performance, it will do just fine.

Looks like a Toyota Matrix and Jeep Liberty combined.

This is built on the same platform that will become the new Mistsubishi Lancer EVO, the WRX's main competition. It COULD actaully perform, if they go that route.

From what I"ve read, it is suppose to be for people who want a Jeep but are much more on-road oriented. I think its a great idea, if Land Rover can do it, so can Jeep. It has always been known for the its off-roading ability, but if they make some on-road models, it probably would increase sales and make Jeep known to the younger crowd (ie ME being 20) and make them want a new JEEP

Take it easy ya'll,

The Eagle was ahead of it's time. Now they would call it an SUV!

I've said to others this would best fit in as an Eagle. Without Eagle around, the next best fit is Jeep. Would anyone like it better if it were named the Jeep Eagle rather than Compass?

That's a sweet hood, but I think it needs about 6 more slots

Oh could you imagine a Jeep WRC rally team?

An actual Jeep motorsport team?

That would be awesome, since I think Ford is losing interest we need another "American" manufacturer there

To try and compete with Peugeot and Citroen (for now I'm a subie fan ;) )

Jeeps are suppose to be for creepin. It'll be a sad day when Jeep has a motorsports team.

I don't think Jeeps are just for creepin, but they are supposed to be for utility, individuality and doing what the others don't.

By going the badge engineering route they seem to be, I see a real danger of losing the brand the way Plymouth went. Imagine every new platform has a Dodge, a Chrysler and Jeep version, with maybe one icon of each brand standing alone. Soon there is just not enough difference in the brands and one will be selling a lot less than the others. That one will be Jeep because the whole point of buying Jeep no longer exists. The Wrangler will remain, and probably renamed the Dodge Jeep.

Personally I don't understand it. Chrylser should make cars. Dodge make trucks. Jeep makes Jeeps. Simple and effective. But what do I know? I'm just a consumer that scratches his head every time he sees a Sunfire and a Cavalier together and can't tell the difference or see the point.

I'm not saying I particularily like the car. But if they build it I think they should capitalize on it.

Oh, and how was the original Willys that flew nimbly over the battlefield in WWII built for creepin'?

The jeep was made for capability, but also for it's ability to move around places fairly quickly.
