http://site.justforjeeps.com/guide/82207248.pdf shows how to install the MOPAR 82207248
7-wire tow harness in the Liberty. The instructions are without text, ala IKEA furniture assembly diagrams, so that even a 7-year old could follow them. Being right brain-challenged, I'm confused. Also our 'new' CRD is still at the dealers in PA, and I'd like to be prepared when we pick it up. So answers to these questions will be appreciated: What's going on in picture #2? Also in picture #12 on the left side of the sheet, Item 'C' seems to be tied off and is not connected to anything. In picture #12 on the right side of the sheet, Item 'C' disappears. And what's that device shown in the right diagram that looks like an ashtray, but not shown in the left diagram?
Also, Item A, the harness, seems to be pushed through a hole in the right rear floor, but in picture #15, the harness appears to be coming from the left side of the vehicle. Also in #15, is the harness attached from below the vehicle, or inside the vehicle? Picture #17 is also confusing. Finally, will I need to drill holes to mount the receptacle to the receiver, or does it attach elsewhere?

Thanks!

I can't identify exactly what's going on in those pictures, but there is a nice narrative for this install over on JeepKJ: http://jeepkj.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1691.

Picture 2 is the removal of the upper rear trim in the cargo area.

Picture 12 item C is the relay bundle for the trailer tow harness. The 'ashtray' is the optional CD changer.

The harness runs from the inside of the Jeep through a large grommet at the right rear of the vehicle then over to the hitch.

Picture 17 is showing pushing the trim panel back in place.

Here are some pictures of that area: http://liberty.eurekaboy.com/reverselights.htm

Do you have a photo, a good one, of the harness adapter before you installed it? I think I ma going to have to buy the USW adapter and then recofigure it to fit the E-spec trailors.

I've put both harnesses on my 06 and have a service manual with electrical diagrams on CD. The big harness, not the "complimentry" harness, has a large insulated bundle on it that's shoved into the right rear fenderwell. The insulation is for sound purposes and is all taped up. It contains relays and cicurity to convert the Liberty's e-spec lights to the US standard. You would need to open it up to get what you need there. There's different wiring for export, right hand and diesel models so you'll need to open the bundle and figure it out.
