Hi All, started up the CRD yesterday and it had a massive vibration at idle and anywhere between 800-1200rpm. After 1500 rpm the vibration was still there, but not as noticeable. I let the motor warm up like that for approx 15 mins, the vibe never went away. Put the vehicle in Drive, it went forward, same with reverse. I tried to drive the vehicle like that but it was unbearble. Oil leve was fine, tranny fluid was fine. Let the vehicle sit over nite, still there. Called Dodge to come tow it. Dodge just called me and said "nothing wrong, no vibes found, purring like a kitten" What gives? Anyone else have this? In my opinion the torque convertor was causing this out of balance. Its a 2006 Liberty CRD with 7200km's on it.

the crd has two large counter rotating shafts in the engine to smooth it out, they may have not been turning.

No I havent' had the F37 recall yet. Those 2 counter rotating shafts, what would stop them from turning? The engine seemed fine at 1500rpm or later.

I think if you would have turned it off and waited about 30 seconds, and then restarted it would have been ok. Something may have triggered the limp mode.

Well, short of seeing it, I am at a lost now. I dont think its the counter balance shafts in the engine slipping, there gear driven i think. Was it very cold outside? What type of fuel do you use? Maybe air in fuel line?

When mine start skipping in the morning I know it's time to bleed the air out of the fuel.

It was -30 degree C. It was plugged in for over 24 hours. The motor ran super smooth after 1500rpm, then as soon as you let it idle if would shake violently. The vehicle was towed to Dodge, left over nite in -34 degree C, not plugged in. They had to boost it to start it, and it never shook at all for them. I have the vehicle back now, same weather, no shaking. What the heck man?

I think it might be associated with the Torque Convertor rather known as the F37 recall.

You are likely sucking air into the fuel and/or have a slow leak (air) allowing the fuel system to partially loose prime while the engine is turned off. Start by looking for loose hose clamps. Continue by checking the fuel filter head for signs of leaking. Unplug the heater wires from the filter head and pump the primer several times to build pressure. Wait and watch for air or fuel leaking through the wire connectors or between the filter head and the heater section.

Another possibility is ice in the fuel at that temperture. If it happens again, try a dose of Power Service 911.

I'm guessing that 1 or 2 cylinders weren't firing - that would cause the vibration - but go away after they started - and an interaction with air/moisture in the fuel due to the cold weather.

I'm going to twist this situation some: When the 1 or 2 cylinders didn't fire, did they load-up with raw fuel, then fire? You would know this because the tone of the engine will sound hollow and as they begin to fire, they will eventually hit one at a time and clear themselves in a nasty cloud of smoke. This is common on larger diesels starting with dead cylinders in the cold.

If this didn't occur and you still had a dead cylinder on start-up, then you probably have air in the lines/loss of prime situation. This will sound the same but no smoke cloud when they fire.

Near no-starts have two likely sources: 1). Air in your fuel lines. 2). Partially obstructed frozen fuel filter.

Frozen engine mounts. It happens below -30.

Sometimes -30 sometimes -35, got to love the liquid engine mounts.

I find it amusing that everyone thinks the worst when things happen, sometimes it is just a simple thing
