I have the "turbo bark" when you let off the throttle quickly after hard acceleration, but more disturbing is a whirring/chirping sound coming from the engine or tranny when accelerating at 1/2 or more throttle, between 2200 and 2400 rpm. It will go on as long as I hold the rpm there and go away completely on either side of that rpm band. Can't say for sure what it is, but I try to avoid holding the engine speed there for long.
This is exactly as I have described in other posts but mine occurs between 2000-2500, then the vehicle moves slightly more freely. I really theought it was the turbo but today the dealer replaced the turbo assy. Result...It's the same as it was, no difference, the dealer has acknowledged there's a problem but now has given up and can't fix it. They have seen this with 2 other CRD's but not to the extent of mine. They said I should contact DC direct if I want more results? That's it, they gave me the keys and I left, only to drive 50 feet, turn around and head right back to the dealer to point out that the parts changer miss aligned the exhaust pipe to the turbo and there's a new low growl with huge whooshing sound! The tech writer comes out to look and say's "ya I can smell exhaust"...DOH. He goes on to tell me come back tomorrow and we can fix it up.
That noise has progressivly been getting worse over the months, to the point where it does it all the time and getting louder under any load but being loudest going up steep grades at 60 KPH. I firmly believed it was the turbo, but not so sure anymore as it was changed. It could be the TC but I doubt it, that blasted noise is right where the turbo lives.....I'll try and talk with the manager tomorrow about options.
