Wife brought the crd in for a free oil change today(got lifetime oil changes on it)
and they told her it needed the 30k service. She promptly called me and had me talk to the service writer. Heres what i was told it included...

Service Writer: Me
Oil Change - "Ah your doing one today"
Air Filter - "I just changed it"
Fuel Injector Cleaner - "You just replaced my cleaned my injectors, fuel rail, and injector o-rings cause you broke them trying to fix my oil leak. "
Check Brakes- "Ah your checking them today under warranty cause they seized this morning, besides, i just looked and the pads were fine."
Clean Throttle Body - "You just replaced it a few thousand miles ago, and the CAC, and EGR, CCV, and Glow Plugs"
Trans Service - "You guys just did the recall, got the fluid and filters changed then."
4x4 Servic- "Ah look at your records you just did the front and rear diffs." He then replied, " Oh yea, i see that, we did the xfer case to." at that point i was shocked cause i never paid to have that done, and asked him "Are you sure the xfer case was done?" He said "Yep sure was" Shocked me, didnt pay to have that done, didnt even know they did it.

Tire Rotation - "Hmm, could use that but im not paying 30 bucks for that!"

After the oil change they said they are now going to charge me 40 bucks a pop cause the diesels are more. I kindly explained, i dont take 12 quarts like a full size dodge only 6. And you give the cars and trucks with the hemis free oil changes with no surcharge, and they also take mobil 1. No comment there. I have a appointment with the service director tomorrow to discuss there idiocy.

I Guess my point is I dont need any scheduled maintenance cause all the parts that were needing it, were just replaced anyways!

Think outside the "CRD box" when you look at this list. Looks more like a boilerplate gasser schedule. I got the same lecture at Schaumburg Toyota with my Camry. "We can't check your tune-up settings unless we clean your injectors." Had a difficult time understanding this because it was a running fool when I drove it in for a simple oil change. BTW: A 30K service on a Camry will set you back @ $600 after it takes on a life of it's own.

This is why they give out free oil changes in the first place....so you bring it to them...then they can sell you other services while you are in there. Honestly, most people aren't as smart as you Danno (confronting him with service already done)....and the service writer then played stupid when you confronted him with the fact that none of these services were needed...but most people wouldn't...they would get scared that their "car will break" if they don't have the serivce done. Sad but true.

I also get free changes. When I brought mine in last year at 30k the service writer said I needed a "tune up". I asked her what it included and she talked about changing spark plugs, pcv valve, timing etc. I told her that she had no idea what she was talking about and then got a dose of "mad hen" regarding "i've been a service advisor for 4 years and I do know what I'm talking about, etc". I then told her that since it was not possible to stick a spark plug in my vehicle she could stick it somewhere else. She got really mad and at that point the service manager came over to see what the issue was and after about 30 secs he told her to look at the video screen. She did and just walked away.

I have to wonder whether the CRD would have had a better debut in the U.S. if it had been in a Dodge wrapper. At least most Dodge dealers have diesel techs. The individual dealer can do a lot to make or break a vehicle. My dealer has been pretty good so far, but they also sell Dodge...

Dodge already had diesel techs in most of their dealerships. Jeep did not.

yeah, ever since the local 5-star (there's a laugh) jeep dealer threw me & my CRD outta the shop with instructions to never darken their doorstep again, I've taken it to the nearby no-star Dodge dealer and have been treated well. They got my CRD's EGR valve problems fixed, did the torque converter & ball-joint recalls without incident in spite of those having been the first of their kind they had done.

You just pissed em off down there with all that Lemon talk and Ralphy Nadar and all. :D Glad they got you worked out. My small town group has been nothing but great. I think they want me to buy a Wrangler that my son wants. Repeat customer.

I think they just get a bit tee'd off at us constantly bringing in the crd for more work and complaints and not paying anything.

If I come back to the US I will be taking my KJ to the local Mercedes Benz dealer for service.

Has anyone currently in the US actually tried that? From what I can gather about mercedes dealers, they treat you well, but you pay out the nose for anything non-standard (it IS a luxury automobile, after all...). At the very least, I'd rather have a competent snob working on the CRD than a friendly idiot.

I don't think you can qualify the dealership as being plus or minus by what they sell. Gotta be some good MB wrenchers out there just like i know there are some good Jeep wrenchers. I know of one guy that wanted to take his to a Detroit Diesel place, that has ties to DCX and Penske, and was turned down for warranty work. They said take it to a Jeep service dept.

I really don't know why a Mercedes dealer would have tools or training specific to the VM Motori engine. Has it ever been used in something with a Mercedes hood ornament? I'd say most of them would be offended by an enjun not from da fadderland.
